Default GRRRR!!! Problem with slicks!!! Help.

Hey....

Today I brought my slicks to get mounted. I have 13x6 Volk TE37's and 22x8x13 M&H Slicks. They got mounted with no tubes. They had a bit of trouble with the first one but eventually got it to pop and sit right. The second one, they were playing with for like an hour and cannot get it to sit correctly or "pop".

They tried a rope and a tire iron around the middle of the tire as well as some other old techniques, to no avail. They beat the hell out of it with a mallot as well.

Anyhow, the dude told me he has like 40 PSI in the tire and to let it sit overnight and it may "pop". If that doesn't work he said to mount it on the car and it may "pop'. All this "popping" makes me nervous.

Any of you guys ever experience this problem? What can I do to get it to sit right? Any tips? Is it at all safe to run it with it like that? Any shops in NJ area I can bring the wheel to?

Thanks in advance.....

Miguel

its because your wheels are too narrow.
inflate to 60psi but hope the slick doesnt burst.

try try again.
you really want 13x7 or 13x8
even if you get them to seat, they wont grab as good as a wider wheel

I think you shouldn't have bought Volk TE37's for your drag slicks.
Since 13x6 is the widest in 13"

Well, unfortunately I only have these wheels to work with. Next time around I'll get something wider. I see people mounting slicks on steelies so I figured it shouldn't be much different than these wheels. The one that is mounted seems pretty awesome.

Here you can see how it is not sitting right....

Think this will work?

Welp... I tried it, didn't work.

Tomorrow, I will try re-filling it at a high psi like sgT said

i seen this on a documentary on discovery channel.

there were these land cruisers with some BIG *** tires to run over the cracks and ice in the artic. they had to run really low pressures on them and they would come off the bead often.

they would spray the tire near the unseated bead with ligher fluid, then light it. the bead would pop back on everytime.

now i am not saying to do this, but it may spark some ideas in your head.

also ask the tire shop to put about 40-50psi in there and to spin it on the balancer the tire shiftings it weight to the outside might be enough to make it pop.

Awesome, thanks for the ideas Tony

I'll have at it tomorrow. Believe it or not but, I was beating the crap out of the tire and pushing and pulling and I unseated the part of the bead that was holding and all the air came out... LMAO My wife was just staring at me like I was the village idiot...

Hmmmm maybe tomorrow I'll try a blow dryer?

They had to put 80 psi in the tires on a friends set of M/T slicks to get the bead to pop. They put it in a steel cage in case the wheel exploded. Needless to say the guy filling the tire up with air wasn't a happy camper. Be carefull with that ****, it'll kill you before you even know what happened.

Back in my tire busting days we had a few problems getting some wide slicks to mount a on slim wheels, in fact the other way around was hard too. Narrow tires on wide rims(like low riders, gold spokes etc.) I always had to do those. The trick is to lube the hell outta the rim, then it never took more then 60PSI to get it to "seat". We never let anyone walk away with a tire that wasn't seated. Occassionally I had to lightly pound on the tire near the area where it wasn't seating and it would then pop right up.
