Internals for R18, desired or not??
Alright guys, so I went digging and I pretty much shot myself in the foot with a few places I went digging to (not going to explain).
Anyway, I wanted to guage interest and see if any of you with the R18's would be at all interested in internals for your cars'. Now I know that even though it's supposed to be an econ car, that doesn't mean you can't beef it up.
I ask this because, 1, I'm interested myself (wanted to buy an Si, but if internals are available, f*ck it). And 2, I've been talking to Brian Crower back and forth a little bit and wanted to see about it being a possibility. So let me know what you think, yea or nay?
-By the way, the more of you that respond, the better the outcome will be....
Update: I talked to the guys at Brian Crower, and currently they're looking into it, but, with enough feedback, I'm sure we could be able to get them to manufacture the actual product. So, let's get the feedback started, what do you guys have to say???

I'm sure aftermarket companies will begin producing internals for the R18 even if "Honda-Tech"/the intranetweb doesnt show a ton of support/interest.
Either way, beefing up an R18 seems like a lost cause but good luck to you FG1 folks

how very antiphon
I vote YES! but even if they did come out with it in the next year or so, i wouldn't even have money for it

I would think that the first folks needing internals for the R18 would be folks with forced induction. Has anyone yet blown a R18 motor due to weak rods, pistons, sleeves etc etc. And if they did was it due to not being able to tune the ecu via hondata, AEM, etc etc. I would say ask Brian to start first with a camshaft for you guys.

How do you figure?...
I don't get why people always say this. Look how many regular civics there are out there (WITHOUT swaps in them) that would absolutely murder an 06+ SI. It's not a lost cause.
You guys just all seem to think it's never worth it because the SI can always be "beefed up" that much more, but that's such a stupid way to look at it. Aftermarket internals + high boost = quick car.
Look at the redshiftmotors.com S/C kits.. Built R18 motors have a projected 400+ Brake HP. Pointless?.. No.

Well look at all the older hondas people swapping gsr motors into civic etc you can apply that here but don't put a SI wing on a base civic that just makes you look retarded and a ricer. I don't think there will be much support internal wize for the r18 because it isn't performance oriented motor thats why people buy an SI for performance. Ive seen people putting NOS on a r18 to me thats rice and gay esp when its an auto it dosent make sense trying to make it something its not. I am sure in the near future you will see k20z3 swaps into lower model civics that i find interesting and non rice but beefing up a r18 i am with tre on this 1 flame me all you want i could care less.

1) Show me where I ever stated ANYTHING about about making an R18 look like an SI. ANYWHERE.
2) There WILL be internal support for the R18. Again, look at all the aftermarket support for previous year civics.
3) Why is people putting N2O(my bad) (Not NOS, Fast & Furious Fanboy
) rice/gay? Ok, they wanna be quick with minimal setup. I agree on the auto, that's pointless. BUT, if you have an auto and you wanna make it quicker, whose to deny that? Look at that AJP turbo auto, it's prolly just as quick as your SI and it's an AUTO. So I think you just lost that one.
4) People don't buy an SI for it's god-like performance. They buy it because it's a cheap way to have a "sporty" car. You buy a high-end car when you want true performance.
I'm sorry I seem so argumentative to you, but you make it too easy. Aren't you gonna feel like **** when your all-mighty SI is being roasted by those "crappy, economical D/L/EX civics?

Don't "quote" me if you aren't going to actually "quote" me. I said "Look how many regular civics there are out there (WITHOUT swaps in them) that would absolutely murder an 06+ SI." There is no mention of it being a "regular 06 civic".

Did you mean N2O? If you are going to be a dink and call someone a rice-boy, at least get the elements right.
Jon
PS: AJPs turbo auto may be faster than an Si, but I am going to take factory engineered speed over shop-engineered speed any day. I am not trusting of boosting an open deck motor without good electronics.

Before I bought my 2007 Si I thought about buying a 2007 DX instead and swapping out the motor for a k24 setup.....but then I realized for the money it is best to just buy an Si. ON another note the 2001-2005 Civics with stock motors did not get much love by the aftermarket companies. Same will happen with the R18 motors.

In 2000, if people wanted performance, why did they sell so many DX,LX, and EX's? Maybe everyone should have bought EM1s.
I really hate when people say "why didn't they buy the Si". There are a bunch of reasons everyone didn't go out and buy an Si. Si's were/are limited, they're 20k+, some people don't drive stick...

Honda sells so many more DX,LX,EX because those people didn't care about performance "out of there CIVIC" I cared about performance "out of my CIVIC" so I bought an Si. I am not talking about Lambos, Mustangs, or Corvettes here. So your point of other higher performance cars is useless. If thats all I cared for then I would have just bought a Mustang.

I bet you anything the R18 will get ignored by the aftermarket.
Just look at HONDATA they made nothing for the D17 Civics.
Those guys swap out to K2xx motors.
R18 owners should do the same.... swap out for k24xx motors and teach Si's a couple of lessons.

i believe that only r18 drivers can say that the r18 has potential, i strongly believe it's the fastest base line model (stock) civic out there, i've beaten soo many cars with my stock r18 motor (kept up for the first 3 seconds against the friends S2k :D haha)i beat a 2000 Si, Altima with dual exhaust and Cai, 2002 eclipse with exhaust and SRI, 2004 civic with headers, cai, and exhaust. and you may think im talking out of my *** but i did beat a GSR once out of 4 races, the other 3 was close.
bash on the r18 it's not gonna stop me from tuning it.

somehow i find this pretty hard to believe. my dad has an EX 5 speed and it is just not quick at all... maybe you found some bad drivers?? There's no chance you beat a GSR or 00 Si, unless you got some mods under the hood.

All this is turning out to be another argument about buying an Si. Look, I can understand your stand point, yeah the Si is a performance based model of the Civic. That's already fairly understandable. And I believe we all know this.
And if it makes you all happy, so you'll stop forcing your ideals on us, your Si's are superior to our cars. (I'm sure that's what you wanted to hear)
In previous years the civic's regardless of trim level had aftermarket support, and the 01-05 base civic got at least a turbo, I don't feel like researching right now, but I'm sure there were other products in terms of aftermarket support, look up corsport, or google 01 civic, you'll come up with a little more than a few things.
I know that you want to bash on the r18 motor, because it's weak compared to your k20. Well, true, but it's still a fairly strong motor and has potential. There was a video around somewhere that proves my point, but I'm not able to find it at this time.
It's highly unlikely that this generation civic will not have strong aftermarket support, once one company comes out with something, a whole slew will follow. And seeing as though it's a remodeled year, and it doesn't look like absolute crap like the 01-05's, I'd imagine companies wanting to provide support for it. Not to mention the popularity.
So, summary, yes, we know that the k20 is a good engine and you like your Si's, well some of us like our r18's, let it be at that. We all know the differences, no need to keep bringing them up.
....Now can I please get some votes up?
