Default Question About Suspension.

Hey guys, I searched for suspension topics and Honda-tech didnt find anything.

I know a few of you guys drag race, some auto-x, other have street cars.

Well, my question too all of you is I am build a car that is more of a track car. I plan on driving it quite a bit on the streets but also taking it on the track as much as possible. So I was wondering what a good suspension would be for this type of driving. I will also take it to the strip on occasions to run the 1/8 and 1/4, but I want something that is going to handle like its on rails. I have always been somewhat of an aggressive driver.

Anyhow, can you guys give me some idea of not just companies (I know most of them) but the lb. springs you have used or what would be best for the car I am building.

Thanks in advance.

A good setup would be the Koni Yellow/Ground Control combo, Progress rear sway bar w/ good endlinks & Progress brackets, and some sticky tires.

Could also get a coilover setup like D2, Ksport or F^2. I have D2s and personally I think they're very nice...

You CANNOT go wrong with Konis and Ground Control! This is the answere you you mainly get here by those that know. I have this setup on my 00 Base. 450lb front and 475lb rear. No sway bars, stock bushings, just this and a strut bar up front. I track this car on the weekends and drive it 60mi round trip to work most days. It is a great setup and can be tuned for both. It got rid of most of the brake diving and tilting in hard cornering. With the springs heavier in the rear I personally believe it sets the car up more neutral and it reacts more predictable. Koni/GC Later, Wj

Hahahaha...word.

I have heard people going as high as like 12 - 14k.

And thats cool if its what I need to do.

I dont care about ride quality as long as it handles great.

Plus I dont have a girlfriend to bitch about it being "Too Bumpy"

if you get tiens from ebay be vey careful that they are genuine tiens. there was and not sure if there still is a problem with false tiens being sold on there. but anyway i run the tien flex and love the hell out of them most people will say you dont need to spend that much for a good suspension and they are right i just got a great deal on them. but the koni gc setup woll work for what you want, and wont blow your budget. also get some really good tires that will help alot more than you think.

No budget, then what would you say?

I'm thinking about the Neuspeed Koni's, but haven't decided on Springs yet.. I see most are saying Koni with the Gound Control's.
Oh and + Sway bars and anything/everything else to help handling..

No budget? Some of those high-end set-ups like Ohlins, Buddy Club, etc...
Maybe something custom with seperate tanks and a custom tubular suspension with all heim joints, roll cage, lots of weight reduction, light weight forged wheels and expensive grippy tires, Quaiffe LSD, adjuastable swaybar endlinks on all 4 corners and getting it corner balanced.

lol, I've seen the BC and a few other JDM setup's and with the prices, I've actually wondered whether or not they were worth the price... And if just getting a decent shock/spring combo would come out close to it... With the extra suspension bars and what not..
I think your custom setup is a little more than I'm thinking of doing... I'd say that's even higher in the price range..

Heh, thanks for the ideas, but I didn't really mean that part as a question.. I was saying I'm thinking about the Koni's and (Brand) Springs, and also getting suspension strut and sway bars and anything else that would help handling..

too bad buddy club discontinued the coilovers for the prelude
was already ordering a set when my supplier said they stopped

currently on tein ss
and will be putting the tein flex in with 10k/8k spring rates instead of 10k/6k it came with

10k/8k - something like 560lb/450lb

my 5th setup will most likely be custom konis/GC tho

i would recommend about 12kg/mm front and about 10kg/mm rear. on a street car, you don't want to handle with oversteer. understeer is good for street use but you too much is bad for track. that setup right there should be good for you and just get a progress/ST REAR sway bar. you'll get pretty good handling on those

i'm on tein HA's which is 12kg/mm F 8kg/mm rear with a ST rear sway and it handles pretty decent but would be alot better if the rear was a little more stiffer

So it looks as though the Koni's with Ground Control coils seem to be the choice of most.

Now most of you have also said get a REAR sway bar. Would it be good to also purchase a front strut bar also? I think I remember reading somewhere that they were not good to put on Preludes, is this correct?

gettig a front and rear sway bar will help body roll alot. but for handling, you would want a rear only becase it stiffen's up the rear helping balance out some of that understeer you get in a prelude.
