Motor Upgrade Questions??
Hey everybody, im new to this site and cars as well. ive always worked on trucks in the past. but anyway, i have a ap1...im wonderin where i should start with my F20C to get it ready to boost..i know this is a broad question, but im just looking for a little advice as far as internal work. im in iraq right now but when i get home in may i want to start workin on my S. i figure its as good a way as any to spend some deployment money right?
Depends on how much you want to boost. A mild 5-7 psi boost is okay on a completely bone-stock motor, all you really need is a piggy-back ecu program (greddy e-manage, etc), which may or may not come with your kit, depending on what you're looking to buy.
The S2K already has pretty strong internals, if you're looking to boost a higher level, you'd definitely need a bigger fuel pump, injectors, and a standalone ECU.
If you want crazy-as-hell boost (like 500+ HP), build a full-race motor.

If you have to boost, and youre new to cars, i would say get a complete supercharger kit from comptech. I believe it comes with engine management. Im not sure if the vortech does or doesnt. This will allow you to just bolt it on and drive smoothly and without having to spend extra $$ for dyno time and sensors. I would, however, suggest maybe leaving the car NA for a while just to be able to enjoy it. Boosting it MIGHT involve a lot of down time, plus no matter what anyone says, boosting is never going to be as reliable as NA. It's not physically possible. Wouldnt you want to ENJOY your car instead of fixing or working on it the whole time you're around it? This car is going to be so much more fun to drive even stock after stepping out of a truck that i dont think you'll ever think "man, im bored, i should have boosted it." Unless you're into drag racing. Then just boost it and get it over with. Also, save some of that G.I. bill for differentials.

Ehh, you can run 500rwhp all day long with a simple headgasket. But you start to push your luck a little.

Save your tax-free money with Hazardous Duty Pay, Imminent Danger Pay, Family Separation Pay if qualified, then come back and dump half the cash on it. Do it right and do it once.
