Dyno Results - SI w/ AEM CAI and DC Sports catback exhaust
Today I went to the Dyno Day hosted by ModaCar in Livermore, CA. There were a **** load of cars. I waited almost 3.5 hours to get my car dyno'd. Despite the long wait, I couldn't resist the deal of $40 bucks for 3 pulls.
Let's make the story short. I've done some baseline pulls last month when my car was completely stock. My baseline results were very disappointing, so I've decided to dyno it again on a different kind of dyno. Please see this link for my baseline pull results. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1876564 Today I dyno'd my SI w/ AEM CAI and DC Sports catback exhaust on a Dynojet. Supposely if you dyno the same car on a Dynapack and a Dynojet (w/o counting temperature, air density, etc as factors), the results from the Dynojet should read lower than that of Dynapack. However, my results today on the Dynojet was a lot higher than what I've expected w/ only CAI and exhaust. I know the environment is a factor, but today was actually hotter than a month ago when I did the baseline pull. I doubt CAI and exhaust alone yield 19.1 whp and 7.56 lbs of tq. I know it's hard to compare results with different dynos on different day. With that said, I'm satisfied with the results I got from the Dynojet (at least it makes me happier that my car is putting down some normal numbers). I think I'll stick with the Dynojet next time I dyno my car w/ the reflash, headers and img.
Dynapack - bone stock SI w/ 1,225 miles on it (Jan 07)
165.7 whp
125.7 lbs of tq
Dynojet - SI w/ AEM CAI and DC Sports catback exhaust and 2,222 miles on it (Feb 07)
184.8 whp
133.26 lbs of tq

To be perfectly honest, I think the problem with your 1st Dyno was because it was dyno'ed in 3rd. There were threads several months ago discussing the best gear and it was shown that car's dyno'ed in 3rd averaged around 162 to 167 whp, cars dyno'ed in 4th yielded 182 to 185 whp. My memory could be totally whack however.
It would be nice to see what is going on with your FA ratio, with the mods you have done. You mentioned in your first post (the dyno because the snowboarding trip was canceled), that the mechanics told you 13 was best for the car. Personally, I think that is still a little high. Without FA, I would think something more in the area of 12, 12.5 would be better, but I am no mechanic.
Congrats on the better numbers. Once you get the reflash and IMG, I would think you would see around 205 to 210 whp.

Hey Hellzcivic, you are from Santa Clara!! I'm not too far from you. Did you ever go to the 8th gen meets? I want to check out your ride!

No. To be honest, everyone tells me I am too old for all this car stuff, so I usually avoid car meets and stuff.
I would love to show you my ride. Let me know when and where works for you.

IMO I don't think there's an age limit to be a car enthusiast. People have told me that I'm too old to modify my car too. But I just tell them it's my passion. You can never be too old for that.

my experience with dynojet vs. dynapack is that the dynojet reads higher. I've used both DSR's dynojet and Blacktrax's dynapack.
My B18C dynoed 184/130 on DSR's Dynojet and 170/125 on Blacktrax's dynapack.
My friends 98spec ITR motor made 188/130 on DSR's and 167/125 on Blacktrax's.
I prefer Blacktrax's dyno becuase the tuner can load the dyno which makes it nice and easy to part-throttle tune.
dont be dissapointed with your "low" numbers. Your engine is only rated 197hp and FWD cars typically lose 15% through the drivetrain. 197 x .85 = 167.45 whp. Seems right to me.
Stick to one dyno no matter which one it is. As long as you baseline and re-dyno on the same one you'll always know if you gain or loose power. Changing dyno's between mods wont tell you how much power you gained or lost.

Hey Billy....Its Nat from BlackTrax.
Just to clear some things up.
We did dyno your car in 4th gear, not 3rd because 4th gear is closest to 1:1 ratio. On every car we tune, we manually dial in the 4th gear ratio by matching the cars rpms to the 2000rpm control speed on the Dynapack program. This way you get accuracy. So even if we were in 3rd, we'd still end up dailing it in with the 2000rpm control speed. We've done this in the past and made the same numbers. Our Dynapack was calibrated by Dynapack, not us. What you should do is do a baseline now with your reflash so you can actually see what you've gained. It's been said thousands of times on hundreds of forums: Comparing two different dyno graphs from two different dynos is useless.

Hey Nat, I spoke with Jae when I dropped off my ecu and he's clarified it.
I just forgot to update it on the thread regarding my baseline pulls, but it's updated now.

nice numbers on the dynojet
