why NOT to get that shitty AEM bypass valve
found this on PO.com... thought it was interesting....
apparently, someone tested it somehow and found that it opens up at WOT, regardless of water. sorta defeats the purpose of having a CAI.
also, its lets dirt in!

Run the cold air setup and just don't go swimming with your car.

Or else just bring it up under the hood, but make a heatshield type barrier to isolate it from the engine heat. You can even run a duct that channels fresh air in the lower fenders and front bumper area to the filter itself. Personally, I would just leave it down there.
I've told so many people NOT to get the by pass valve, but do they listen? NO. I had a CAI on my 00 Si and never had a problem driving through storms. The idea is not to take off the liner which some people do and not to go into deep waters thinking you are driving a boat. I don't...some people won't believe you till they see it themselves...
I think the ONLY drawback with the CAI location is that you have to clean your filter more often. I check it every other oil change (6k miles). If it's somewhat dark (usually after 10k miles), I'll just clean it with the K/N filtercharger kit. Comes out clean and almost like new. Other than that, no regrets here!
If your intake is completely submerged and you drive through a flood no bypass valve will prevent water from getting in. The only thing it may do is delay it. If you see a flood or puddle of water dont drive through it.
Wow you have no idea!! I have the 3" aem w/bypass on my ITR and man does it suck. I've had it off for 3-4 months now, and I just got a 3" silicone adapter to nix the POS bypass valve altogether. I was going to reinstall but I noticed my piping is dirty as hell and the filter is even dirty on the INSIDE. I'd hate to find out what made its way into my precious engine!
I'll take some pics when I get home...

i had the aem cai on my prelude about 2 and a half years ago and i loved it. if you dont go boating in your car, you wont flood your motor. maybe things have changed in the past 2 years... I think super street or scc had a write up testing the bypass valve on the nsx, they actually had the filter IN water and it sucked up absolutely NO water. anyways, just thought id share that with everyone.

i took mine off cause a damn piece of rubber from that thing got sucked into intake manifold, went through the combution chamber, fouled my $60 denso plugs, and it's now probably stuck somewhere in my cat.
