Cant get timing belt on
hey guys, been trying to get my timing belt on for 4 hours now after doing a manual tensioner conversion....... i have a "Greddy" performance timing belt.
i have searched.
my question is????? will a H23 OEM honda timing belt be just as good? cause i have one in my shed running 466hp.
fairly urgent

h22 and h23 timing belts are different. are you putting the belt on in a counterclockwise direction? start at crank gear and go around from there. its a tight fit so it helps to have a helping hand keeping the tension on everything.
here's what i did.
pull the manual tensioner off
put the belt on the crank
put the belt on the exhaust cam gear
put the belt on the intake cam gear
put the belt on the water pump
place the tensioner bearing onto the mounting bolt to tension the belt.

thanks for the replies fellows!

I think one guy posted here that he had to grind clearance in that back part of the bearing. Check the FAQ. There is an entire thread dedicated to the manual tensioner install on a H22. Here is the page describing modification of the bearing:

Push the tensioner against the spring pull as far as it will go, then tighten the tensioner bolt to hold it there. That will give you the maximum amount of slop in the belt.
yep i loosened the tensioner and pushed it down as far as i could. tightened that bolt. had 3 big tip flat head screw drivers and slid that bitch on. was a PITA
do have have to use the balancing belt pulley which bolts on after the tensioner pulley? i have machined a spacer to " fill" the space.
im not using the balancer belt either.
