Piston Slap and broken rings, please help--
Who assembled the motor? What was the piston to wall clearance? What were the ring end gaps? You said alot of oil consumption--do you mean you always had to top off the oil, or was it smoking badly-or both? It looks like the piston to wall clearance wasn't enough and/or the motor was overheated during break in. Was it "tuned" properly?
A clearance problem usually shows up on the bottom of the skirt---whereas a lean issue shows up directly under the rings from the piston overheating and expanding. Looks like you had both of those issues. I don't think the integrity of the pisto had anything to do with this.
Also, I always hear that the number 3 cylinder runs the hottest--which would jibe with your results.

HG wouldn't necessarily go--you would have to really overheat the motor for a while to warp the cylinder head enough to have the HG start leaking. Was your ignition timing acceptable? What kind of compression and what fuel do you run?
When was it tuned? Did you drive 1000 miles and then tune it? What spark plugs were you running? Is the Arias a low or zero silicon piston? You have to get the exact specs from the guys who built it. What do the shop who built it say what the most likely problem was?
Post some pics of the top of the pistons. I don't know why the rings would break. Could of been broken during installation, or severe detonation, or improper end gap which made the gap reduce to zero when the motor got up to temp and the ends started bunching up on each other.

Motor was assembled by a shop with lots of experience with Hondas/Acura motors. The motor was broken in on 1000 miles with no overheating what so ever. Ill double check the piston to wall clearance when i go to the shop. By oil consumption i meant i had to add oil every other week. The motor did not smoke .
The motor was tuned with hondata s200 and then switched over s300.
I always babied this motor, im puzzled as to what caused this? the mechanic said overheating, but wouldn't the head gasket go before the pistons? the motor did have overhearing problems at one point, but it never ran while it was overheating, i would immediately pull over. </TD></TR></TABLE>
i think u just answered!
