Default Strange vtec light

Does anyone else have a strange light in their (stock) dash that says "VTEC"??? When I first saw it I thought I was on crack. But it's definitely there! It's a lot more visible with the camera flash. It never lights up though.... ever....

Anyone else have one?

Heh? Why?

I dont think it was the previous owner .... it looks oem When you're not looking at it through a camera flash, it has the same appearance as the other lights... the flat clear plastic-in-plastic look that the engine, oil, etc lights have.

No but maybe it's for vtec pressure.

(just kidding)

Upon close inspection it really does not appear to possibly be made by hand... so I am very curious. Oh well, I intend to pull apart my gauge cluster soon anyway to change some burnt out LEDs so I'll look at it then and let you know what it is

LOL that's interesting. I thought whoever did this would have it light up as well.
But looks like your needles aren't stock too so it must have been out.

I don't know a bout you guys - But that thing looks like it was carved in with a sharp razor or something, maybe not on the face but behind it ? Maybe thats why it doesn't appear unless its in certain lights.

RofL...Make sure the odometer wasn't rolledback/hacked while your looking into that.

pretty funny tho, would be even funnier if it lit up at the crossover point

.....I remember reading back in 1999 about some guy who did a homemade vtec light: it was on honda-acura.net before h-t split off... anyway, that looks like what someone did to your cluster. A light would come on when you hit vtec... and you tapped into a power source and into the vtec wiring at the ecu, iirc.

Maybe a search here or on h-a would find out?

That sure looks carved in to me. The V doesnt even line up with the rest of the letters. Mine sure doesnt have it, I think that goes for all of em.

Actually that doesn't concern me at all... I tested 2 other Type R's with lower KMs (and NEWER ones too) before I bought this one, and they both felt sloppy and abused compared to my 97. I also did the carfax thing and made sure it had a clean title, and had it fully inspected by Acura. The guy I bought it from is also good friends with a very respected senior member on VancouverCivics.com

I know all about the whole vtec light crossover thing... I made one for my Civic many years back. This really doesn't look home made (although its difficult to explain that with a digital camera)

As for the odometer... they would have had to do a pretty shitty job of rolling it back, considering I now have 182,000 kms on her

Again... when I pull it apart to replace the LEDs I'll figure it out then.
