ITR windshield, same as other integras?
Stupid question but i have my R for 2yrs now with 12k miles and its mostly weekend car. I do drive it to work once a wk or so depends on weather and never rain or winter. My question is that my windshield is easily pitted many tiny specks.
Its looks like crap when glares hits it. I hate to replace it just for that reason unless its cracked. Anyone know if this windshield is somehow lighter or thinner then stock integras and its there any glass polish method avaliable in this matter?
Rest of the R is pit free so i think winshield's angle hits everything?
thanks,
eddie

couldn't find a HONDA part #, but here's a place you can get it...hope it's worth it to you, b/c retail is $500!

I thought the windshield in the R was lighter than those in the other models?
I know the UK cars have thinner glass, but definitely not in the US. DOT would never have let that slide.
You'll have to raise hell to get Honda glass, but do it.
I have a friend in Houston that had a crack in his wind shield. He owns a Yellow 2000 R. He replaced it with a regular Integra wind shield and noticed the regular wind shield was thicker than the Type R wind shield. We had a little Type R meet and everyone had a chance to hear the difference, feel the difference (by knocking on it), and see a difference between the two.
There is a market difference between the Type R vs the regular Integra wind shield.

Was his replaced with OEM Honda or aftermarket glass?
When a rock broke my windshield, I went to the dealer and checked part numbers for '00 Type R, '00 GS-R and the other DC2 Integra(s). It was the same Honda part number for all three.

Does anyone have the ITR brochure handy? I think I remember seeing the "lightened windscreen" in there maybe?
Not in the US for 2000, at the very least. That quote appeared in several UK magazines when they tested the Euro DC2R.
Pat, who had his OEM Honda windshield replaced with an OEM Honda windshield and checked DC2 part numbers for an hour
Yeah, I've had my windshield replaced as well, and at the time, confirmed that the Honda part number for the ITR glass is the same as the other Integras. It may be different in JDM land, but not the US versions.
I've been wondering, how strong is lexan??
How much weight would you save if you replaced all the windows with lexan??
Sorry this is OT

Oh one other thing I forgot...lexan scratches too easily. The windshield is replaced every race in Nascar if I'm not mistaken.

You're smoking crack. Lexan is much stronger than glass. Much more impact resistant. The bar down the middle of NASCARS is a recent (last couple years) addition for safety. I forget who it was, but someone had a tire hit directly on the windshield. I wanna say it was Dale Sr. but I forget. That's why the bar was installed there.
I cannnot speak on scratching.

ALMS cars relace them not only every race, but during their enduros they hold. Lexan on a daily driven car will not last 2 weeks.
One day with the wipers on and forget it..
