Default Clicking sound and stalling constantly.

There was a big snowstorm yesterday and I was trying to get my car out of the driveway, I was revving it so high in reverse and once I got out, the car just stalled. Now when I start it, it either just chokes, or starts for a second and stalls. When it is running it makes a loud clicking sound from the engine. If I get it to go, I have to leave it in first gear at a very high rpm, and when I shift it usually just stalls. I'm thinking I probably blew the engine beyond repair from revving it so high for so long, but I don't know. Any advice?

By the way, it's a '99.

When you say you were reving it high, how high are we talking about? It sounds like you bent some valves, do a compression test.

Pretty high, I'd say 6 or 7 grand. I knew it was a horrible idea when I was doing it but I just wasn't thinking and I had to be somewhere quick. How do I do a compression test?

sounds like valves to me too.

AUtozone/Pepboys sells a compression tester for about $30. Quick and dirty would be:
1. Pull fuel pump fuse
2. Pull out spark plug wires
3. Loosen all the plugs but leave them in the holes
4. Take out the plug for one cylinder and screw in the tester
5. Get into the car and turn the motor over (hit the starter) with the throttle wide open
6. Read the results, take out tester, place plug back into hole, screw in loosely, and move to the other cylinders.

EDIT: HOnestly, a leakdown test would be much more effective in finding problems, but you'll need a compressor.

For a compression check you have to have a gauge but then you just remove the spark plug of the cylinder you want to check and thread the gauge into the head and crank it. Note what it is I'm not quite sure what its supposed to be. I'm sure some one here can tell you.
