I personally don't have / haven't used this, but it looks soooo sexy.

Momo wheel + NRG quick release.

This is the NRG hub for the NSX, but you get the idea.

from what I've heard NRG makes the best hubs

Isn't that where NRG copied it from.

NRG quick release is very nice and they work! The craftsmenship on them are really clean, they just recently release the new model that is short and doesn't extend out longer from the steering base

I had an NRG unit in my car. It worked fine for what it did. If I wanted to spend more money on that setup I would have gone with the Sparco unit instead. A close friend of mine had that one on his H1 car and IMO it worked great and looks very nice.

The Sparco one is hands-down the best and also hands-down the most ludicrously expensive, at ~$300. I'm using the LTB one (www.ltbmotorsports.com), but haven't driven on it yet. I like the releasing mechanism a lot more than on the NRG one, but at least just sitting still, there is some play in mine, and none in my buddy's NRG.

i have a spine drive in my car (dont remember which one it is) but it had play in it within the first week or so. the nrg ballberring ones are more resistant to play. if you want it for security reasons, nrg is the way to go because you can get the lock. but if you need to exit the vehicle in a hurry and remove the wheel to do so the nrg takes just a little longer than the others.

I have the NRG one as well. Haven't had any complaints so far. I'm using it with the Momo Monte Carlo wheel.

I have the Sparco quick release and it's really a nice piece. Yes it's expensive but it's still virtually slop free over a year after it got installed.

All, be careful... I've heard of a number of steering wheels come off, seen the carnage of one just in October, from a Spec Miata (hit the wall before the Kink at Road America).

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by CRX Lee &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
My first ever race in the FP CRX when after the start at Mid-Ohio, I passed about six cars on the very inside of the corner then at the track out point of Turn 1 my steering wheel came off in my hands and I made a direct B-line to the guardrail on driver's left. I hit the guardrail (my first ever contact with an inanimate object in 17 years on track) at such a shallow angle that the bulbous cantilever sidewall on my Goodyear slick was the only thing that made contact. I thought I had wiped out the entire side of the car including my custom flares and beautiful paint job but instead I just scuffed the tire sidewall on the guardrail and slightly knock my toe setting in a hair.

The second close call in that situation was that almost all of the six cars that I passed on the inside of Turn 1 and a number behind me were all crashed and several were totalled just seconds after I snuck through because another blue Honda (the polesitter) had his steering wheel come off at the same time causing him to slow down, accordian the field and carnage ensued.

The race was red flagged then restarted after the cleanup. My car was fine and none the worse for wear after losing the wheel and clouting the guardrail. I got a 2nd place in class for my car's debut.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Chris, I wonder how many of those were attributed to the wheels not being locked in properly. I know there's the vid of one of the Integra drivers (H4 or ITA, I don't remember who it was at all) pulling the wheel off on the front/back straight of track X, holding the gas, and putting the wheel back on, and apparently that WAS because he didn't lock it down. Just something to keep in mind, rather than blaming a product (though I'm not discounting that idea either).

I'm definitely not blaming a particular product. But whether it was a user issue, or someone didn't use loc-tite, etc., steering wheels can/do fall off, and it's amazing that I haven't heard of someone getting killed because of it.
