SRS: Would I be doomed if I got rid of it?
I might be making a bit more money here pretty soon which would allow me some more freedom with my car.
In doing so I would like to do a little revamping to my 13 year old interior. One of the things I would like to do is swap an ITR steering wheel.
Now as I gathered from some old threads I dug up, the DC2 ITR SRS steering wheel will not fit and only the older non SRS will fit. Has any body in here wrecked a non srs Prelude? Did you regret not having srs. I'm not planning on getting in any wreck's but if I do I'd hate to have reconstructive surgery because I wanted better looks in my car.
Point being, should I worry about it? Or is the car fairly safe w/o?

Eh.. I dunno on the safety.. I mean.. That's why it's there.. And if it's a daily driver.. It's up to you..
But on the other part... There's another Steering Wheel that first the 4thGen?!?!?/!?!?!?!?!1 Really? I thought our only options were Stock UDSM Wheel with SRS, or Stock JDM Without..
And the the other aftermarket wheels with hub thingies.. :?

Yea, by what I've read the DC2 ITR wheel fits, just not the SRS one... which kinda stumps me, I guess they have a different spline... why they'd change it I don't know.
I know Some Del Sols in other countries got a pretty dope 3-spoke SRS wheel as well, but I haven't heard of any on a Prelude.

Hmm... If you have pictures of any, please share.. :DI've only known 5thGen's to be the lucky ones.. They're able to add the Sk2 Wheel w/ Airbag..
Not Fair..
If you drive really crazy (like me) I would advise you not to take the steering wheel off because the airbag HELPS A LOT. If your like me though (young,hard-headed, and "invincible") then go for it. The reason I changed mine was because i didn't like the grip on the oem wheel and it was bulky which I do sometimes regret though because I have seen what happens in accidents
. Just drive really carefully and wear your seatbelt

Well..air bags do help in a car accident, let's say my friend didn't fly out of the passenger seat of a car because the airbag deployed, but driver wise I'm not sure how much it will do...I'm trying to find some picture of a wrecked Prelude but I can't find any.
Well besides the fact that removing the airbag is illegal on an SRS equipped vehicle here in CA...there are other reasons not to remove it.
If you hit a brick wall at 30mph, your car will stop in an instant. However, your body is still going 30mph at the time of the crash. This is where the seat belt prevents your body from flying out the window. However, your head will still hit the steering wheel at 30mph.
Keep it man, it might save your life one day.
that is my 5 cents.

I'm not sure if it is illegal in the states but if you get in a wreck and you have willingly removed the airbags you can kiss any money from the insurance company bye-bye.
