Why does J's racing use the Mugen header on almost all their cars?
anyone have any idea why EVERY j's racing car ive seen is sporting a mugen header?
is it the 2 liter header or the 2.2 liter header?
they use it on their f20c and their f22c motors.
anyone?

anyone?
take a look into Best Motoring International
the j's cars in all their videos have a mugen header with j's everything else
j's exhaust, j's motor, j's ecu, mugen header, j's intake
im kind of confused why
since ive heard the j's header makes more power than mugen...
im so curious

only thing I can think of is that maybe the J's header was not designed yet. Alot of the videos are years old before they come here.

If savings and more power are your requirements, I could offer a suggestion to have saved clsoe to $10,000; get a used and modded Mustang, Camaro, Magnum, Neon, etc.
Out of those cars, you could spend about $750 on an exhaust alone, and free up more hp and torque than you could bolting on a whole, high end I/H/E on the S2000.

Hows that a relevant comment? He's saying that you could get more power numbers out of a part that costs $1400 less. Why does that mean he would have to resort to getting some kind of **** pile to drive around? I mean i'd be the first to disgaree about putting a test pipe on a car, but still. He has a point. If infact, a test pipe makes as much power or more power than a mugen header...i mean..iduno....i'll stop here, i wouldnt approve of putting a test pipe on a car lol. Im just saying he has a point. Would you buy something for your car that costs $5000 but makes you lose power just because it has a name on it? Im not saying that the mugen header makes you lose power or that it costs $5000, but you cant say just because he wants to spend his money more wisely (although putting a test pipe on a car is dumb), that he should resort to getting a mustang.

I dont really wanna get into it too much. Im just environmentally conscious, thats all. I just feel its irresponsible. I dont want this to turn into another "well everyone else does it" argument...so dont bother. I wont knock anyone for doing it, i just wont do it or condone it. If anyone asks my opinion on whether or not they should do it, I try to tell them not to do it..and also much more importantly WHY not to do it.

It's relevant because of the following logic:
A test pipe alone may free up more power than a Mugen header...but at what cost...
What do you lose down low, and can you afford it (especially on an F20c)?
Where is that power gained? ...at 8000 RPM, at 8500 RPM? Is that really any good for street driving, auto-x, short-track? If your car is a dyno queen, then nvm.
For me, the Mugen header served many purposes: I got the header back when the only other NA option available in North America was the Comptech header at $1100. I also daily drove my car at the time...a header and/or testpipe that netted me lots of power at 7600 RPM+ did me no good. On the other hand, not losing anything from the dig (vs. stock), gains across a wide portion of the mid-range (before VTEC to 7800 rpm) and no loss from OEM up until rev limit sounded very good for my use....regardless of the Mugen price tag.
So how is my comment relevant? If peak power and value is the biggest concern, then tuning a cheap Mustang, Camaro, etc. is more up the individual's alley. If peak power on an S2000 is the individual's goal, then save your pennies...save even the $100 on the test pipe. Buy a turbo kit.
On a side...I wish I hadn't editted my original reply. I typed out an eloquent response, and then realized that here on H-T there's not much hope to have a mature discussion when opinions come into play.

Well allright, if you want all that "low down" power, why dont you just buy a mustang or camaro? <~~ that statement has the same value as your original statement. You were simply trying to state that you wanted USEABLE power out of your S2000. Does that mean you have to resort to buying a mustang or camaro? Thats my point.
I was not saying that i agree with the test pipe idea. If i had the choice between paying $1500 for a header and keeping my cat or buying a $100 test pipe to make the same power, i'd either spend the $1500 or just live without the extra what? 4hp?
I used to be a name brand over common sense kinda guy too. I'm not saying that the mugen header is a bad peice, i mean i have done no reasearch on it. I dont mind spending money either. Im just saying this:
Say, for example that an AEM CAI makes 7-9 hp over a pretty broad power band. Say for example the mugen airbox makes 8-10hp also over a pretty broad power band. The AEM costs $300 the Mugen box costs $1500. Im not making a show car. I mean my car looks really clean....and it has all the factory functions and amenities in place. But some people would buy the mugen box regardless. I understand that there is a difference in looks and quality, and that is very important to me. But then i gauge the $1200 difference for 1-2 hp?? cmon. If the mugen box made like 5-10 more hp, i wouldnt even blink at spending the money. If i was totally loadeed, i'd buy the mugen box regardless...because its awesome....and it says mugen on it...and it has better fit, finish, and functionality. But most people are NOT loaded. Im not in the poor house, but i do have school to pay for and a hard top to buy
lol.
Im just saying that the guy's original point was to weigh all the factors. Cost, quality, hp gain, etc, and put them all together to produce the most EFFECTIVE mod. It wont win a show, but it gets the job done.
Again, i'm not condoning the test pipe, and im vehementaly against test pipes. lol. just making that very clear.
