CRX Chasis
hey guys after selling my EG about 3 years ago Ive been wanting to build another honda for a long time. Ive been looking for a nice decent EG and man the prices on them are up there now, I guess cause of the demand. No one is letting them go for lower than $3,000. Well anways Ive actually found a couple of CRXs for dirt cheap. My question is why dont you see alot of CRX chasis used as race cars? I see alot of EGs/Tegs. I remember my buddy had a CRX HF with a stock b16 open header and it moved, then again this was maybe 4 years ago haha. Im planning on doing a complete motor build up on my next project and really leaning towards a Crx hf. I wanna build a street car than I can take to the track not an all out race car.
btw- the set up i wanna do is a 2.0 Ls/vetc on nitrous or maybe a decent turbo build
Can you guys clear up some issues with the crx chasis?
heres some info I found. true or false
1. Its expensive to do the cable to hydro tranny conversion
2. if u put anything other than a B series you gotta cut up the car
(like no drop in kits for H22 etc etc)
3. theres really no aftermarket drag racing products for the CRX
(like a header that fits the chasis, etc etc)
4. the short wheel base on the crx limits you on how fast it can be

1. No.http://www.passwordjdm.com/pro...D=469
2. Well H22 requires some cutting etc.K series fits in there really nice though.
3. Lots of parts for the EF chassis but header i wouldnt no i dont do NA.
4. Hondas are all short wheelbase so it really doesnt matter.
EF's have less room in the engine bay which is a issue for turbo setups etc and I suppose the H22 as well i have never seen one first hand.As well parts are available but in comparision not as plentiful as a EG and they are OBD 0 so you have to buy a adapter harness to run Crome etc not a big deal but if its a non SI model you have to convert it to MPFI which is easy but once again more work. The EF is nice and light and they are very cheap which is really nice.

I'm sorry. CRXs have been used a lot. I do feel that the EGs are more common nowadays for many reasons.
1) EFs are 88-91 whereas EGs are 92-95. The reason that matters is because EFs have been around for 3 more years and therefore have been wrecked, stolen, butchered, etc.
2) EGs come with hydrolic setups and the same chassis design as an integra which enables people to drop in a B series motor as if it was designed to hold that. The EF requires a mount kit and a cable transmission(getting much harder to find now) or a hydro conversion kit
3)Banks are not as likely to give a loan (mainly applying to the younger people) on an 88 civic whereas a 95 civic is a little easier to see on your books (from a collateral perspective)
4)CRXs were only made in 3 of the years i believe and EGs made all 4 of the years. and tegs 8 whole years.
5)tegs are so much cooler looking anyways. duh

i myself am building a crx right now, 600+HP turbokit. the hydraulic conversion is kind of expensive....the mounts are around 500 bucks. CRXs are lights as *** so its a good car to go with, but i dont know, im building one because i havent really seen a crx faster than 13seconds here in utah. im goin with a t4/61 p-trim .68ar and a peakboost manifold FTW. i just got done doin the engine build-up and i just ordered my turbo this week, so probably 4 more months til its ready (til i i buy all the turbokit parts) Im sure I'll find out some problems because of lack of room but we'll see

They are not that expensive when you factor in the price you can get the car for.

not true, you just need to replace the front crossmember and install a traction bar

If you can get one for cheap, then I say go for it
for some inspiration look at team pacmans k20R swaped crx
I think he went high 11's on just ITBs, Header, and k-pro as mods
but I read its a bit more hassle to drop a K in a crx then other chasis (like EGs, EKs etc etc). I think the HF model is the lightest, but if you're going to strip it down then I guess it wont matter what model u get. The Si does have the sun roof though

its real easy theres after market parts out there for the crx,i personally got 1 put in a complete 92-95 odd1 wire harness, made my traction bars got a b20 vtec in it and with traction problems due to lack of preping the track in orlando and with a shity 1.9-1.8 at the 60 feets im doing 12.3 at 113 miles all motor. i know i got way more potential on the car but for now im concentrating on the traction problem and my driving skills that are
for now...
for now...
could always go k in a crx almost everypart is available.it will cost but as for n/a streetable and a very respectable track car its a gd option
we did this k20a typer 6spd/lsd into a crx
