Default DIY Rim Striping?

I don't think I've seen a thread for this before. I'm looking for the Time Attack Volk Effect, except I'd be looking to do a blue stripe to a black rim instead of a red stripe. Anyone know how this can be done PROPERLY so that it doesn't fade? I'm also assuming this should be done before tires are mounted.

Anyone done this?

Yeah I suppose that thread is relevant, but I was looking for something more specific. I mean I could make a cardboard cutout to place on top of the rim, but if the aircraft stripper gets to any other part of the rim, its going to eat off paint in undesirable spots. I was wondering if there is any "cheap" or "nifty" trick to just paint a ring around the rim without jeopardizing any other part of the rim.

I guess you can't just paint on top of the rim either cuz then it'll fade/come off right?

I dont think that thats a good idea to just try to strip a small line around the edge of the rim then try to paint it. It would be more of hassle and wouldnt come out that good. Best be its to strip the whole rim, paint the lip, let it dry then tape it off and paint the rest of the rim.

Yeah that method would probably be best, but I doubt I'll take the time to do all of that. Especially considering that we haven't had a warm day here in MD for quite awhile....

For those interested, I was going to try and put a blue lip stripe on some Black Work Emotion XD9s, and mount them on a Fiji Blue car. I just thought that'd look phenomenal...

Wedsport makes a similar wheel with blue in the lip. Can't remember the name though, bet Type X knows

Scuff up the part of the wheel you want to paint blue with some steel wool, cover the rest of the rim with a cutout and tape or whatever you want to use. You're gonna have to tape real straight if you want it to turn out looking good. Then spray on some primer and paint it blue. Some people put their painted rims in the oven for a bit after. You might want to look into that yourself though.
