BFGOODRICH TIRES RENEWS SPONSORSHIP OF POPULAR STREET STOCK CLASS
GLENDORA, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2007) – NHRA has announced that in 2007 BFGoodrich Tires will renew its title sponsorship of the Street Stock Class by continuing the lucrative BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock Bounty and the BFGoodrich Tires Qualifier Award for the popular Street Stock Class with more than $9,000 in cash awards.
A $5,000 BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock Bounty award will be given out to the driver that holds the BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock class national time and speed record (per NHRA national record guidelines) after the NHRA Sport Compact World Finals, the final event of the 2007 NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Series. The $5,000 award will be split if different drivers hold the time and speed records.
“During the 2006 season the BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock category proved to be popular among competitors and fans,” said Josh Peterson, general manager of the Xplōd Sport Compact Racing Series. “The continuation of the lucrative BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock Bounty and BFGoodrich Tires Qualifier awards will continue to increase the level of competition among competitors in 2007.”
Loan Nguyen, of Burke, Va., collected the 2006 BFGoodrich Tires Street Stock Bounty with a time of 11.96 seconds and top speed of 116.86 mph in her Honda Civic. This enabled her to collect the $2,500 for each record and take home $5,000 at the NHRA Xplōd Series Champions Award Ceremony.
“We are excited to continue our support of the NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Series,” said Todd Steen, motorsports marketing manager for BFGoodrich Tires. “Our support of the BFGoodrich Tires’ Street Stock Class allows us to demonstrate the proven capabilities of our tires, while showcasing our products' record breaking performance to enthusiasts that champion our tires on and off the track."
In addition to the year-end Bounty, BFGoodrich Tires will pay $200 each to those drivers who run low time and top speed at each event. To be eligible for the BFGoodrich Tires NHRA Street Stock Bounty each driver must be competing on BFGoodrich drive tires, run the class decals on each side of the car and run the BFGoodrich Street Stock windshield decal.
The BFGoodrich Tires Qualifier Award is for the top eight qualifiers at each event. The top eight qualifiers at the eight stand-alone NHRA Xplōd Sport Compact Series events will receive a cash award of $50. To be eligible each driver must be competing on BFGoodrich drive tires and run the class decals on both sides of the car.
Success on the street begins with winning on the track and BFGoodrich Tires is involved in every type of racing, including oval, sports car, drag, desert, rally (Paris-Dakar and WRC) and extreme rock-crawling. With 20 consecutive Baja 1000 wins, the most wins in rock-crawling history, and an unmatched record on pavement, BFGoodrich Tires has proven the only records it breaks are its own.
