well just broke 2 teeth of my counter shaft in my gsr trans. didint hurt anything else just like the first time. bit i cant figure out how did this happen twice u would think someting else would break for a change.
anyone have a issue or a idea what is causing this besides power.
1st time was at the track 2nd was on the street

shocking the transmission "upon take off" or on gear changes. also, if you dont have the shafts shimmed properly, they might actually get binded up when you clip the counter into the case, and that would "help" break it.

Exactly what d said. Was the gsr rebuilt? Not shimming the countershafts, even if you swap cases they need to be reshimmed. I had one break because of that.

ive have hasport all the way around & thier arnt any shims on the countershaft never were. i thought they are only on the main shaft.
aslo i broke the lower half of the teeth both times. so shimming it more would raise the shaft up making it worse , no?

maybe ill go back into the book & see what the deal is. dont see what the mainshaft has 2 do with anything cause thier arnt any gears pressed on & thiers also just a spring washer & washer on the bottom. the problem is with the ring gear & countershaft gear only so far.
aslo if i think abouy it even if i shimmed the counter shaft the snap ring would still put it in the same spot so i would need to shim the diff up a little to center the teeth better.
aslo i notiched the countershaft & mainshft gears the teeth donty line up perfectly thier off by a little is that normal? or do they line up better once u put the case together with the snap ring?

if the mainshaft was shimmed wrong, you would be having issues shifting gears. but it sounds like you need to shim the diff, because if it wobbles inside the case it will self destroy it self. the counter shaft, is pulled up a little(not much), once you close the case.

ya i hear what u are saying i have a little backlash noise when i am in gear & off gas so maybe the diff does need some shimming but shouldent i be able to push the diff a little from side 2 side if that were the case? also i got a quaif.
trans is still out cause im waiting for the twin disk so maybe ill mess with it some more.
never tried shimming a diff so we will see. just put new bearings on it a while ago does that mean i need to check shimming again?

check the lash, use the manual. the diff, should have minimal side to side movement. does the transmission make noise, when you get off the gas?

ya its got a little noise when your off gas in gear but it perty much goes away once your out of gear ( baybe because of the load factor)
its like a drone sound with a little backlash noise. never had the noise till i broke the pirst countershaft has it ever since

just putnew diff bearings in so i know those are ok. also i inspected all the other bearings & they seemed to be ok i guess ill pull the trans apart & just check all my clearance again. better to do it now while its still sitting on the bench, rather than breaking something again
