Default ZC or B16???

I am about to buy a ZC because from what ive heard they are cheaper, more reliable and they produce just as impressive(or unimpressive) e/t's. What do you guys think? Which is better for turbo?

If your looking to something to upgrade here and there every now and again, get the b16. The ZC turbo will no doubt crush a b16, but your limited more with the ZC. If your looking to get more power out of the ZC further down the road, then you have to build up the bottom end in order to handle it. A b-series motor is capable of more before you have to build it up. And also easier to find parts. Get the b16 and keep saving for a turbo for the b16.

I say ZC...thats what I'm swapping into my civic in a month or so...its cheeper and you can spend the money you save from buying a b16 to rebuild it for a turbo!! and with turbo it could keep up with a b16 or even beat it!!

VTEC is nice but its not the GREATEST thing on this plannet

with a ZC turbo you will beat a b16! its that simple. and it will probably be cheaper.

A ZC with a turbo kit is going to cost quite a bit more than a b16a1. Unless you know how to scrap a turbo kit together yourself...look at homeadeturbo.com and see how many engines he has toasted trying to perfect it. b16

actually you can get a zc with ecu for about 500$ at the most plus about 1200$ at the most for a greddy turbo= at most 1700$.......lets see for b16 its like 1500 for motor tranny and ecu plus 450 mounts plus linkage plus axles, etc. =$$$$$ alot of money evryone knows it will cost a good amount for a b16 swap! plus it is a lot harder of a swap to perform! i say go zc turbo and if you want b series, dont go b16 you will probably be disapointed, go b18b or save and go b18c or b20 you will be way happier in the long run!!!
good luck

$1500 for motor, tranny, and ECU?! Last time I looked, you could get a SiR changeover (Motor, Trans, ECU, Axles, Inter. shaft, Linkage) for $1250. Plus $400 for Mounts. $1250+$400=$1650. You can modify the Sir linkage to fit if you want to save some money.
The cheapest Greddy turbo kit ive seen for a Honda is the 92-95 Civic EX SOHC turbo for $1649. This is a pretty mild turbo setup too. Assuming you can fit this turbo on your ZC, its not going to be much faster than a B16 with I/H/E. $1649+$500=$2149.
The only reason I would go with ZC is to go against the mainstream crowd. The B16 has more potential than a ZC.

*My Opinions*

Yea...the ex kit can be modified to fit a ZC. At least thats what ive been told. I dont know how mucj hp it would put out but i dont think that itll be too much. $1,650 is a little cheap for a FULL b16 swap. I dont know if id order from a company thats selling it for that price...prolly sorry *** engines. Ive been told to expect to pay at least $2000 for a GOOD b16 swap which will only produce high 14 to low 15 timeslips...the same thing that other people do with ZC's. I could do a ZC swap for $500 and build a backyard turbo for around $1100. Not to mention that a ZC turno...even with low boost will SMOKE a b16. It might not make too much more hp but that doesnt matter. It will produce alot more torque and it will reach its peak torque at a lower rpm. Torque is what will win the race...not hp. You know the old saying...horsepower sales cars...torque wins races. Just my .02 cents.

I got the $1250 price from http://www.hondamotorsonline.com I havent heard many bad things about them either. Anyway, most JDM engine shops will match other peoples prices. But if ZC is your thing, go for it. Good luck scavenging for replacement parts
Most ZC owners ive known pulled the ZC out within a year of using it and dropped in a b-series.

My buddy and I are going to race sometime at maple grove friday grudge racing...here are the setups:

His
90-91 DX hatch
ZC
Si trans
89 integra ecu
Greddy turbo running 5.5 psi non-intercooled
Clutchmasters stage 2 clutch
Running an FMU setup

Mine
91 DX sedan
b16a
S1 trans
Pr3 ecu
Clutchmasters stage 1 clutch
Thermal R&D exhaust
Iceman intake

We are just going to run against each other for the heck of it and because we are both interested to see what happens. I am pretty sure he will beat me but I want to see by how much. I will post the results soon.

imo b18 or b20, i see your in nc and your emissions aren't that tight so you can go ls/vtec in the furture which will stomp a b16 or boosted zc ........btw the greddy turbo kit was orginaly designed for the zc, and can easly modified (port match the manifold) to work. any 1st gen b16 can be had for under $1800 w/ the mount kit/linkage. any thing over that is too expensive.

I'd say go with a ZC and Trubo it, I myself am running a ZC with a Greddy turbo and the only thing you have to modify is your piping, and yes its torquey as hell, but remember no install is perfect it allways ends up being almost twice as long as expected and I think im being realistic here but almost twice as much as proposed. I have been running turbo on my ZC for about 3 months now very happy and no problems yet, (knock on wood). Just think of what you want in the long run. Good luck making your decision.

Listen to your Conscious "ZC Turbo, ZC Turbo, ZC Turbo, ZC Turbo, "

just to put my 2 cents in here... right now i have a 1990 civic hb dx with a dohc zc turbo in it . i built this car about 3 years ago ... on 6 lbs boost with 20x6x13 slicks (extremely small slicks) it went 13.97 @ pomona ca. they are quick but more potential out of a b series. (good setup= full b20 no vtec boostin 9lbs stock=n quick *** car)
