how do i replace a hand break. mine is really shitty and barely holds the car on a hill. i now have a trusty brick lol. ty

 

Have you tried tightening your hand brake cable? There should be an adjustment nut near the base of the handle.

Your hand brake just manually engages your rear brakes, so if the cable isn't loose, then you should examine your rear brakes to see if they need new pads or other maintenance.

And I thought someone was going hardcore cuz they broke their hand... a JDM hand break swap, now that's extreme

NOT TRUE, dunno where you live, but up here in Montreal, Canada, ive worked on quite a few Hondas that water got into the cable via a bad seal, and froze up.

but in reply to the post, take off the drum and check the amount of pad material u have left, if its good just adjust the brakes. also with the drum off, pull the h.brake and see if the mechanism is moving well. then clean/lube and no more trusty brick lol

 

While I'll admit I'm one of those folks who doesn't know their own strength, every year or so I have to tighten my cable because in setting it a few times each day I've stretched the cable.

And assuming the past is any indication of the future, it's going to keep stretching until one of two things happens:
1) It stretches beyond the range of the screw/nut to adjust, so I can't tighten it up any further. So it'd have to be replaced.
2) As the cable stretches, it slowly gets weaker (the same amount of metal is covering an increasingly longer distance, getting slightly thinner year by year). Eventually it could get so thin that it'd break. So it'd have to be replaced.

Though at this rate, the car may be rusted away by the time the cable breaks or maxes out it's range of adjustment.
