have had swap for about 4 months now.


recently when i drive my car theres this raspy sound that come on around 3200 rpms. it jsut started on sunday. when i accelerate and shift, that raspy sound comes on for a short time again. the kind of sound that sound like the brake shield against the rotor, ya know? well i got my car up on a lift because i thought it might have been something loose around my exhaust or tires and axles. well it all turns out ok except i have a torn cv boot, but it doesnt seem like that would be the cause. i'm starting to think it might be an internal engine problem and i've heard of people having "spun" a bearing in their engine. but i have no idea what that sounds like.

it will only sound when i'm around the 3200 rpm range, below that its not present and neither around 3500rpms and up.


when i pop the hood and manually rev the motor the sound seems like its coming from between the engine and tranny.

could a flywheel cause a raspy sound?

 

Sounds like it might be an exhaust leak.

Raspy does not describe a spun bearing. Spun bearings knock and are present from low to high rpms and increase in loundness with rpms.

 

how can i check for an exhaust leak? i'm had it for 4 months and it jsut started doing this... get underneath and feel for a gust or something?

 

Sounds like its your throw out bearing or input shaft bearing. But its not engine internal related so thats good. If you can make a video and post it or take it to a shop for a look over.

If you want to find exhaust leaks what i do is use some seafoam and see where its coming out from and you know thats a leak.

 

I have a raspy sound at about 3500 to 4ish rpms...and its definately an exhaust leak. I know this because i can see carbon build-up on my test pipe...so you may want to look for any kind of carbon buildup from your header back to your muffler

 

i'll look into that, it sucks cuz i live on a bad dirt road i'm thinking i might just start driving a truck

i hate trucks though...

 

Check the flywheel cover, the 10mm bolts on it might be loose.I remember mine was loose. At first I thought maybe the exhuast shield might be making the noise, but it ended up being the shield.
