Default Seat belt problem

I bought a set of seat belts from someone online. When they showed up, I discovered that both belts are retracted into their mechanisms, and they won't pull back out.

I've heard of 2 other people that this has happened to.

I looked around on the units, and I can't seem to find a button/lever that will release the belts.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Does anyone know how to release the belts??

Thanks!

I wok for a parts department and carmax ordered a new seat belt from us and tried to return it because of the same thing you described. We tried to explain it t them but the dumb bastards wouldn't listen.

lol. Cool. cool. So what is it that makes it work once the unit is bolted into the car? I'm not questioning it. . .just curious how it works.

it is probably some weird gravity latch. the same mechanism that locks the belts when your in a crash is the mechanism that is causing them to not move currently.

did you check and see if it was all tangled up? something might be pinching the strap, not allowing it to release.

I can take a closer look at it tonight after work but, from what I recall, the belt was neatly wound up inside the unit.
