I believe all Skunk2 cams require an upgraded valvetrain, but aside from that, with a good, tune, I'd say 10-15whp peak, but very good mid range gains

i dont think either the stage 1 or 2 require valvetrain upgrades, however i know with stage 2 and 3 the valvetrain is required if you plan on reving higher than the stock limit and really using the extra lift and duration and really getting what you paid for.. stage 1 will be fine with oe valvetrain and stock rev limit

You don't upgrade the valvetrain just for revs. The lift on the Skunk 2 cams is very agressive and will crush your...crap I can't remember what the word is

Yeah, that's it. For some reason my mind kept thinking stem seals, which I knew was wrong

granted i know this. however skunk 2 says that with stage one and stage 2 it is NOT REQUIRED but RECOMMENDED for the stage 2's if you plan on revving past the stock setting. personally, if had everything apart, even with stage 1's, i'd spend the money and do springs and retainers.. i was just refering to this statement and correcting it...

but yeah...rocket motorsports valvetrain FTW

12-15whp from 3500 and up!
Picked up 700rpms up Revving(with power) by using the valvetrain.
The 3500-5000 power is where it really makes sense. From 3500 the car pulls like it did from 4500 before. You actually have some power on tap before VTEC.
Very happy with them......

Great starter cams for sure!

I have been running them with stock valvetrain on my 2nd Lude for about 12k miles so far. The car doesn't make power past 7200rpms or so, but the gains are there. Comparing a stock cam H22 to a Skunk Cam H22 is just a joke from 3500-5000 %-wise!

I will have to dig up the graphs....they are buried in my HD somewhere.

I was just tuning with a VAFC2 and a Chipped ECU.
I have to add the gains would have been higher had my cam gears not been seized. We were able to tune a few more hp out of the cam gears on my other car and change the powerband a bit.

skunk2 cams will not "crush" stock retainers, in fact, stock retainers are more likely to hold up than aftermarket ones in some cases.

Just so you guys know, in our engines, the rocker arm pushes directly on the valve stem. The only thing the retainer does is hold the spring to the valve via the keepers, so the cams you choose has nothing to do with the retainers you choose, however, get a matching set of retainers and springs.

OP: Go with the skunk pro 1 cams, check this graph out.

Yes i saw that. Impressive.

What is the advantage of running upgraded valvetrain, basicly will you gain any power ? I was thinking this because you are lightening the valvetrain.

Nothing noticeable, though you will lose more to pumping losses, due to the harder springs.
