Help fixing driver side rear view mirror - the glass is broken.
Hi,
I tried searching the forum, however, couldnt find any information regarding this. I have a '99 Accord Ex-V6 sedan, US made one, and while it was parked parallely, someone smashed the driver side rearview mirror glass. Yeah, I forgot to pull it in, stupid me.
Well, since everything else works correctly including the motor and the housing, I just ordered the glass from the dealer. However I am not able to fix it myself. Does anyone has any clue how this can be fixed? Please let me know asap, as its hard driving without the side mirror, and any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
VI

If the glass simply needs to be replaced you just need to put it in. It may feel like you're going to break it and the housing but take your hand and put it flat against the glass. Then as you wiggle the glass around at different angles start to push hard against the housing. It will pop in place.
Thanks for the help, however, I tried doing just that, looking at the back of the glass and the slot - there was no way I could press it in, as the socket seems to small for brute force method. There might be an easier way. I will take pics and show when I go home later tonite.

How much was the glass by itself?
I have replaced both side mirrors on my '99 LX sedan, the cost was about $155 each (MSRP = ~ $200 each). If you can't figure out whatever you're doing, the replacement mirrors do come prepainted and it's pretty easy to put a new one on. The hardest thing is getting the door panel off to access the plug that is behind it.

The glass cost me $45 from the dealer, which is interesting as the whole assembly including the plastic housing was $40 online, it seems easier to replace the whole housing (I have the Hanes Manual, and that shows how to), however, online it comes in black, and unpainted, my car is burgundy. Also, the dealer is charging $50 for labour, which is the reason I was trying to do it myself.
Gianinline, I will try to put it in again when I get off of work. Will post pics if I dont succeed.
Thanks guys.

If you are saying you did not get the plastic that surrounds the mirror than it may be like the 90-93. According to my service manual you would have to remove that inner piece from the housing and head the edge of the glass with a heat gun to fit it in the plastic. Then reinstall the whole thing into the housing.

Well I tried to push it in as hard as I could, the holes on the mirror housing are smaller than the ones on the case. its impossible not to break it.
Here is the casing attached to the Car, as you can see, the two white pins which are the power mirror adjustors, it should completely fit inside inside the two holes in the glass case. There might be another way, I am hoping. Do I need to remove the metal bands from the case before putting it in.
( First time poster on the Wild Wild Web forums so sorry for big pics)
