Default h22 vtec engagement at 5900rpm way to late?

my buddys 2.2 swapped civic running a chipped p28 is hitting vtec at 5900rpms, im telling him thats way to late as hes got to shift at 8000rpm. I told him to lower it to about 4900rpm and the car will be alot faster imo, what do you guys think, will it affect 1/4 times?

Redlines at 8000 and vtec engages at 5900? I say set it to about the GSR vtec engagement which is 4500-4700, I think. Anybody know for sure ?
But. Set it to about 4500 IMO!

you want the secoundaries to open at the same time as vtec, its good for 3lbs of tq. ive tested mine a bunch of times, 4700 is the sweet spot for my nearly stock setup.

isn't it that when vtec kicks in at a later rpm it gets more oil pressure therefore it "hits" harder?

the "Ideal" vtec engaugement should not really be felt, you should only hear it. this is whats archived and said by the pros, i personally disagree.

where Hp and Tq curves cross is where vtec needs to be.

You need to put it on a dyno and see when you power starts to drop off when you power without vtec starts to drop off is where you set you vtec to engage. I have a vtec controlle I will sell for 25 shipped if you want. I VTEC hit hard thats not good. When you look at you dyno print out it should be a steady increase not a peak.
