OK, took my car to the dynojet dyno today...

My car is a 2000 cx, with a Y8 head, chipped P28 with crome

We wired up vtec since that was the only code I was throwing when I got there.

Then I was throwing code 22 but only after doing a pull, and vtec NOT kicking in.

Motor put down 89.6whp until 5400 rpms, and then drops off quick.

So after checking wires and even the vtec filter, I started thinking about this oil jet issue. When I bought the car, it had the Y8 head on it, however, nothing else for the mini me was done.
I read online, and people say Y7 don't have it? wtf
Does it have it or does it not, I wanna see proof
OK so any ideas why my vtec isn't kicking in? I'm stumped

i know for a fact Y7 blocks are already set for the head, the oil jet is there and ready to go. i did the mini me swap myself with a p28.

Why vtec not kicking donno but oil jet is fine. your 100% sure the oil pressure sensor and vtec is wired correctly?

 

Yea all you have to do for the y7/y8 mini me is just put the head on. Did you try another ecu? Also did you check the solienoid if its good or bad? Alot of things can be going wrong here.

vtec wont work with a code 22
fix that & it'll work

I have vtec going to A4 and pressure switch going to D6
This is on a chipped P28 I'll have to triple check that

I haven't tried another ECU.
To check the solenoid, all we did was run power to it, and you could hear it clicking. I also checked the mesh filter on it, and it looked brand new.

What all kind of oil pressure problems could it be if it's not the oil jet issue??

 

I suggest getting an oil pressure gauge and see where your oils at. Also did you check your oil? Did VTEC ever work? If not then i would recheck your wiring.

 

vtec never worked cause the car didn't have all of the parts needed to work, only the head.

So im thinking about getting a oil pressure reading just to see if it's pressure related... what kind of pressure is within range of acceptable?

get a helms & go thru all the troubleshooting about a cel 22 & quit guessing

So you are saying that because of the CEL, my vtec isnt working? or the pressure switch itself is the reason.

If that were the case, how come the vtec wont kick in, even with bypassing the pressure switch and just running power to the solenoid? I am not guessing, I am trying things, and not getting results so I am asking for ideas.

 

VTEC needs a certain oil pressure to engage.

If it doesn't have that oil pressure you'll get a CEL.

Hence where you're at.

Y7 doesn't have an oil jet, therefore unless you hooked something up separate, you don't have the oil pressure required for VTEC.

 

my y7/y8 dosent have a pressure switch i wired direct from the solinold to the ecu had no problems with it... 6 months now. i heard that they dont require a pressure switch... i may be wrong...

 

anyone have a pdf or something, of the code 22 section of the manual?

 

do u have the right oil pressure??, is ur silonoied clean?? does it even work??
and Are you 100% sure it is wired correctly?
