Default Clutch stuff

luckily my tranny and clutch are going at the same time, so i can pick up another tranny and throw in a brand new clutch while im at it. i'm currently looking at only stock clutches, cuz i only have bolt-ons and dont wanna put any unnecessary stress on my tranny or drivetrain with any upgraded stage clutches that'll grab harder than i need.

my questions is, other than the oem honda clutch, what other stock performing clutches are there that are of good quality and possibly cheaper? if there is no other selection, then i'll still be satisfied buying a new honda clutch. thanks.

What kind of engine mods do you have? How much is your hp goal? Aftermarket clutch is more expensive than the stock one. If you do not have any engine mods just get the stock one.

oh yea, and in case anyone was tempted to say so; no, i'm not swappin my d for a b-series. everyone and their mother has a b16 swap. now i've grown to hate em. i'd rather have a sohc that can whoop a b16. b18c would be nice but i can't afford it and i wanna finish my car by this summer to sell so i'm def goin greddy turb

actually with a turbo a dx or maybe even cx tranny would be better-wider gear ratios

in regards to getting a better tranny, there is none. the ex/si tranny is the best d-series tranny available.

i was thinkin bout the longer gear thing, but pple with first hand experience have said that the ex/si gears, although shorter than the cx/dx, is tall enough for turbo, and is better mainly because it put u rite in the powerband after the shift. cx/dx throws u out of powerband, plus since the cx and dx are made for non-vtec engines, they throw you out of vtec after every shift.

2-3 grind without any 1-2 grind = worn motor mounts.

Get the ES inserts and used the rear insert.

so my tranny should be fine? no worn syncros or shift forks? just replace every mount except for the rear and i should be ok? how much the ES inserts go for? can you explain the reasoning for this? thanks

Go for the ES motor mount kit. I think it's about $50 and does the rear and the 2 torque mounts at the front.

The stock mounts are so soft that engine travels a ridiculous amount, especially at it begins to make more power. You jump off the throttle to shift and all of a sudden, the orientation of the box to the shift rod has changed because the engine is moving so much.

are these easy to install? as in, can i just unbolt each mount one at a time and replace it with the new one? or is it a difficult process that i have to bring it to the shop for? thanks

no there not that difficult to install, i used them on my crx it actually help take out some of the wheel hop, but i didnt think about that causing the shift grinds, ok in my case though i can just be cruising and slowly shift 2-3 and it grinds. That means worn synchros right?

yea i was thinkin about the mount thing and it makes sense, cept in my case i only have the 2-3 grind. 1-2, 3-4, 4-5 are all fine. even when im driving it slow and not pushing it the 2-3 grinds if i dont let the rpms drop dramatically and shift it very slowly and carefully. im used to it so that i can drive around without grinding it if want to, but its getting annoying.

my tranny grinds when i drive FAST, it grinds when i shift from 1 to 2
i am not sure if it's caused by shifting too fast, and the clutch is not FULLY pressed yet...
it's 100 % if i shift it slowly
so my tranny is okay, right? just my driving skill problem.. right?

well mines is weird it only grinds on 2-3, i can skip third and go to 4th and no grind, downshift from 4-3 no grind, so heres what i been doing to preserve what little tranny i have left. i clutch it shift to 4th and then to 3rd before i release the clutch. sounds werid but it doesnt grind this way so i do it to save the gears for when i need them like against those pesky dohcs.j/k
