but yea could have just been cheap.
at least it broke there, not down at the ball like dc sport alum. shifters do. i mean you can still drive with it like that and you could re thread it and go!!

I would imagine you could break any short shiter if you slam it hard enough...but i would have to assume ebay ones break easier because they are cheaper (you get what you pay for)
oh and to the OP norton sucks you should switch to AVG

This is where someone who knows there metaalurgy could step in and say there are namy different strengths in many different steels...i dont know my metalurgy so i cant speak educatedly but i can tell you some steels are stronger than others as to which ones i dont know.

your right in that sense, i know what you mean, im looking at it as if you have a 1/4" of flta stock steel vs. flat stock alumium, the steel will be stronger in most cases.
i just dont like the alumuim ss, ive seen to many break, and here in WI where it gets cold, they break easier

Nope, magnets stick to iron, cobalt, and nickel (I think). Steel is a product of iron. I guess eBay products are getting cheaper and cheaper.

maybe you overtightened it. That is usually the main reason short shifters break like yours did. The ones that just break under the **** are just cheap. You can break any shifter if you overtighten the ****.
i dont think magent and nickel work. but even if the shifter was titanium alloy coated it would be stronger than steel. more and more drill bits are going to titanium because of its strength and durability
but what it really comes down to is that the ss is the simplest part to be made and companies do cheap out on them.

I'm not trying to bust anyones ***** here but I have to put my $0.02 in.
Ebay does't make anything so please stop calling them Ebay shifters.
What brand is it really? If there isn't a brand point to a seller that you got it from. This way others can avoid it and actually buy the ones that don't break.
And seriously, you spent $5 on it... and you expected good quality?
Like has been said, at least it broke up top where you can still drive the car.
