Default Engine.

I'm looking to drop a dohc into my 89 crx si. I wonder though, if there's a preferred site for looking into engines and also which one is the "best bang for the buck"?

Thanks, that helps a lot. But in a matter of opinion, I still wonder which engine to get. I don't want to spend all my money on an engine, but if it's prominent over the rest I would.

My goals are mainly personal. Although I can't resist the urge to show the kids, who spend mommy and daddy's money, up. Money isn't a huge concern, although I'd rather stay below 3k and be able to add other things sooner rather than later. Yet if it's worth it to throw in another 500-1k I could always wait until I have the money to add the other things.

b16 motor trans and computer 160hp 111trq 1250

gsr motor trans computer 180hp 126trq 2749

You will need swap mounts swap axles and swap linkage for the above two and some wiring as well.

zc long block 129hp 106trq 550

with the zc you can use your stock mounts linkage and axles along with trans just need a little wiring done.

dohc zc is direct bolt on! all you need is the engine and ecu which I believe would be a PM7! since its an si you dont need to do dpfi to mpfi!
In my opinion I would go dohc zc build it a bit and boost it! iF YOU do that it will cost you about the same as doing a complete B16A swap, and you will be making way more power! From what I hear B16's are over rated for the price!
also search

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1847132
just take a look through everything!
I went with hmotorsonline! sohc zc zc tranny and da axles! the only problem I had was bad injectors.

Thanks for the info.

I guess I'll go for the b16 since that's often what I see in a crx. Where would I find one at that price? 1250 seems like a really good deal.

Don't forget that shipping is going to be an extra couple hundred dollars, and with a B-series into an '88-91 Civic/CRX you should generally set aside at least $1000 for misc. items (mount kit, axles, shift linkage, and general maintenance items such as timing belt, water pump, rear main seal, LMAs, cap & rotor, clutch, etc.) which should all be done while the engine is out.

Most people have had good luck buying engines from Steve at http://www.hmotorsonline.com.

I think you should put an LS1 into it. You need to make your post titles more descriptive. You also need to learn that engine swapping/building comes down to your budget and your goals and not everybody else's opinion. But why do I care?

What's the BEST engine for my Honda?

Answer:
125cc Honda dirt bike motor. It weighs under 50lbs, revs to 10000rpms, and makes 320hp/liter.

There, now that we solved the question that is constantly on everyone's mind, let's talk about pizza.

Seriously now, the best engine for your honda is WHATEVER YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY!

If you have $1000, DOHC ZC.
If you have $2000, get a 1st gen b16a. It'll cost that much to get it in.
If you have $4000, get a GSR/B18C1.
If you have $5500, get a ITR/B18C5.
If you have $10K, and no use for your car for a month or two... get a K20.
Edited for the Whiners:
This is NOT a complete list, as there are mini-mes, LS-VTEC swaps, budget/poor man's ITRs, etc. Use the damn search button a bit more religiously.

What's the best engine for boost... the one that gets TUNED properly.
What's the best engine for drag racing... the one you spend the most money on making FAST.
What's the best engine for road racing... same thing.
What's the most reliable engine... the one you MAINTAIN religiously.
What's the cheapest engine... the one that's in your car.
