Getting a GSR soon, timing belt change?
In a week or so im gonna be buying a 94 GSR with about 69,000 miles. The timing belt is original and I plan on changing it myself (I paid $300 to have it done on my DA) since I still have my DA to drive in the meantime.
I understand that you just have to unbolt the motor mount and jack the oil pan up to get access right? No other special tools? Would it be safe to drive for awhile on the old belt?
Im really excited, this is gonna be a big change from my automatic 92 DA

i believe the timing belt has to be replaced at 80k.. and the water pump at the same time. but i have seen integras run till 120k with oem belt no problem.. in your place i would wait another 10-15k miles...
the manual says 60k if driven hard, 90k if you're a grandma. mine stripped a few teeth at 80k, so I change it every 60k from now on. it is probably ok for a few thousand miles, but definately get it changed soon.
Yeah, i guess i could let it go for awhile since its got low miles. I was just curious if age of the belt (13 yrs old) should be taken into consideration...
Nice find!!!!!! I drove my '95 teg to 145k before it got changed(i know i know, not good). When you do change it, do your water pump as well. Its right there and since you have it apart, its a easy replacement.
yes and make sure you use oem stuff... its gonna cost you maybe $40 more in the end but much better products.. best thing to do is find someone who has an account with acura and you get 20% off

Its a really nice find... Salvage title, wrecked when it only had 4000 miles on it
but it was rebuilt great and everything mechanically checks out perfect. Started it up when it had been 25 degrees overnight and no knocking or ticking at all. Body is a little rough but you dont even want to know how cheap im getting it

As for tools, you'll either need an impact or a special tool to remove the crank pulley bolt. That was the hardest part I faced when doing mine. Personally I would start by trying to remove that bolt first, just in case you can't get it off you'll still be able to drive it to a mechanic and have them loosen it. Good luck
