Default CAI and winter!!

So im still driving my car in the winter. I have a Cold Air intake installed and there is minimal underbody panels. The filter is exposed like a few inches off the ground. Its winter so its pretty wet outside most of the time. Should I be worried about the CAI sucking water into the engine?? Some people told me as long as I dont go in huge puddles im ok. what do you guys think??

Well, you can either

A) put the stock intake on in the winter

B) blow $75 or so for a short ram intake

C) hydrolock your engine and scream all kinds of naughty words as you spend multiple hundreds of dollars rebuilding your engine.

Better safe than sorry

No, CAI is mostly for being loud... I believe an AEM CAI only added 1.7whp on a stock JDM ITR engine... So is it worth it risking hydrolock? Put a stock box in if you have it, wish I had one.

I've been looking at CAI's for my gf's 4 door recently and through all my searches I've found more than enough hydrolocked engine threads to steer me away. However, other people in similar regions with similar weather conditions have no problems. These searches were only Integra specific not ITR specific. A couple guys siad the water they drove through was only a few inches deep, barely standing, and WITH the fender liner in place they still managed to suck up water.

Personally I run the Comptech Icebox on my ITR. Best of both worlds IMO. Safe yet peforms well. Eventually I will upgrade to the Mugen.

Having said all this you could: a) ditch the CAI for a short ram, or b) buy an Icebox or Mugen intake.

I actually still have my stock intake. I just dont know how to install it. Also, there is a rubber hose connecting from the CAI to somewhere, what the heck is that?? Anyone know where I can get a write up of how to take out the cai and install the stock one??

Not that I drive my R in the dead of winter all that much I have been thru some serious downpours. I have yet to see any problems related to rain w/ the AEM CAI. I do have the fender liner in place and try to avoid deep puddles, but when on the hiway i just step on the clutch or let go of the gas if I think there is a deep part. But most of the time I just drive the car without even thinking of it.
Put your fender liner in and go about your daily business. Besides snow will not enter your engine, it will get stuck on the filter first

"Snow will get stuck on the filter first" good point, but wont it melt and find its way into intake pipe?

Why dont you have the under body panels on? ka splash shields. You know they prevent water from splashing into your engine bay.

<--Andrew who is baffled at the things people remove from there cars. Honda put those on for a reason!

i've been driving my ITR for 3 winters already with my CAI and i have no problems...(knock on wood)

"Snow will get stuck on the filter first" good point, but wont it melt and find its way into intake pipe?"

from what i know is that the snow will get stuck to the intake first but it won't melt right away unless temp changes in the air from freezing to warm within a day...plus even when it does melt...the oil from the filter should filter the moisture out unless you're in a big puddle
