No, that's way too heavy for a Honda tranny. 10W-30 is what you should use.

Sorry, motor oil. Or if you want, you can go to your local Honda dealer and get OEM manual tranny fluid...it's just a little more costly than 10W-30. Either one will work fine.

Use honda MTF only, if you need to top it off its 10w-40 not 10-30 like posted earlier

mobil1 10w30 works good and GM syncromesh is great, especially if you need to get rid of some grinds.

I've never used honda mtf and never had a problem

manual calls for 10-30 not 10-40, don't use mobile 1 you don't want to use a synthetic too slick for the blocking rings. Use a plain 10-30 dino or honda MTF.

i havent seen any problems with 10w-30, but, go to honda and get the manual transmission fluid. its made for it, stick to that

Actually, the transmission is made for motor oil. Check the owner's manual if you don't believe me...

yeah, its too thin, doesn't offer good protection and it'll probably leak through your seals

synthetic seems like it would shorten the life of the syncros..

10w30,10w40,5w30 regular oil all works fine. honda mtf works fine, pennzoil snycromesh works for covering up grinds (not fixing).

The dude at my local honda dealership told me that honda MTF is nothing more than 5w30.

<---Sees no reason why Synthetic would hurt.

I do use Pennzoil synchromesh though. Same as GM synchromesh. Also, used Honda MTF. Didn't notice any difference, but neither hurts.

I don't know where you guys buy MTF for 6 a quart? its like three dollars at my honda dealer. It is NOT the same as motor oil just smell it, it reeks like gear oil, it has gear oil properties that are not found in motor oil. motor oil is for motors gear oil if for gears My manual for my b18 states to use 10-40 if honda MTF is not available and to use it to top it off, maybe d series are different and you are using a guideline from 17 years ago. honda has superseded it with MTF. if your manual does state motor oil, why do you think that is? why would honda go through the trouble of creating a new fluid if there weren't problems with the old fluid? regular oil is at least $2 a quart, for an extra dollar a quart I think I'll use what recommended. go into the dealer and ask for oil for your manual transmission and see what they hand you, I bet it wont be a quart of motor oil.
