Default unstable idle

Hello im new to these forums and ive been learning alot from everyone here and ive began to grow on cars because of this forum. I know everyone says SEARCH but my search has not solved my problem.

I bought my first car ever and it happens to be a 1985 CRX SI STOCK EW3

It has been really good to me until recently: the idle keeps jumping up and not being stable!

Before, it was worse starting out at 2k rpm idle then warming up it would drop to 1k. I just put in a new muffler and it seemed to have helped because the RPM jumping was decreased. The reason i put a new muffler is because it was OLD stock and because it made nasty sounds and smells. The problem still continues but it is much lower now. It jumpts from 1k to alittle above 1700 RPM, sometimes dropping and almost dying but dosen't. It worries me to see it jump still after having tried different things. Im new to the CRX world so if anyone can shed some light thanks for your time.

ok since it is your first car & is from 85.. haha. standard matenance....

did u get a new air filter?... change the oil?
those 2 would help your car, but i would also check your o2 sensor as well as your idle air controler

FITV, IACV, Idle screw. Idle screw is the easiest fix, try that 1st.

UPDATE- I have done more research and have progressed

I did various searches and tweaks to the car such as:
IACV, SCREWS, HOSES, LEAKS, AND FITV

I took off my intake in search of finding bad shutters or lose parts/screws. I played with the throttle and screws, wd40ed them. No complete success but i noticed the idle was calming. I found a leaking hose spilling coolant and replaced it. I looked for the IACV/FITV area and messed with unscrewing the piece in hope of breaking any clogs and wd 40ing the ****. I tightened a screw by piece 11 in the picture:

I then unplugged the FITV and let it sit on idle and noticed by playing with the FITV moving it back in forth it would cause the idle to fix and go wild. I did not take out the FITV fully and clean the plastic piece inside because nightfall hit but just the small adjustments of WD40 and blowing it worked as the IDLE once again calmed. I resetted the ECU and let the car sit for awhile to cool. I tryed it again and noticed that the idle jump has calmed down. Only thing now is that the Idle is still around ~ 1000- 1250 RPM and does not go to the normal RPM of 750. I cannot find my idle screw and i feel dumb. Anyhelp is appreciated and i thank those who replyed. Thanks !

Kinda hard to tell, but it looks like #1 is the idle screw in that pic.

The screw is visible to the left of the nipple on top of the throttle body.

Seems like it would be idle air controll. 1 of my crx's did that once.
Have you checked out redpepperracing.com they would be able to help you out with your year crx pretty good.
