b16 short gear?
i was wonder does all the 1 gen b16 have short gear. At 50mph, i am at 3,000 rpm in 5th gear. Causing my car overheat on thehighway. Cuz it rev so high. i was wonder where would a LS tranny would be at 3,000rpm in 5th gear...and it is possible to have a b16 tranny with LS 5th gear???? cuz in a way i like the b16 tranny, cuz it pick up speed quick, but top out to fast at 125mph. So will the LS 5th gear will let me pass 125? i want to go about 140-150mph. should i keep my b16 tranny or buy a LS tranny?
Yes the b16 transmisson are like that you have to get use to it and overheating maybe your thermostat is not opening all the way or not all opening is causing that problem and you can swap in a ls 5th gear the lower the rpms in 5th gear

why the hell would you want to go that fast in a crx. im assuming you still have 16+ year old bushings and suspension. good luck, have fun killing yourself

i have full coil-over suspension, with new tire and integra front and rear big brake conversion with jdm front end. i want LS 5th gear, because my gear are too short and i can't travel any where far. can't take the car on the highway,it overheat.

No. B16A transmissions sourced from Integras (XSi, RSi) have short gearing, but those sourced from Civics and CRXen (SiR) have the longer-geared Y1 transmission.

That is NOT what is causing your car to overheat. You definitely have some other issue going on with the cooling system. I have owned and driven several short-geared B-series vehicles, and none of them has overheated when the cooling system is functioning properly.
You probably should have taken all the money you spent on those other useless parts and used it to solve the existing cooling problem. Why spend money to change/upgrade other things when you have major problems that aren't being addressed?

140-150mph is pointless. Why would you sacrifice acceleration in all normal driving applications just for a few moments of jackassery that is highly illegal and dangerous? Not to mention, a stock B16A with long LS gearing wouldn't put enough torque to the wheels to overcome wind resistance to reach those speeds in a reasonable distance/timeframe.
When I read this comment, I had to check your profile. Sure enough, you're 17, justas I suspected. Nobody but a mid-teenager would bother to even think about such dumb things.

im not really gonna go 140-150. i want to, but i'm not. i just want at least cruise on the highway about 70-80 without worry about over heating. cuz at 70-80mph im already at vtec in 5th gear. so pretty it feel like im ragging on the motor. well, thx guy. i like to do my racing at the track.

Then fix your cooling system problem. It has nothing to do with the transmission.

You can't be. No stock cable-clutch transmission is that short. My EM1 was turning about 3900-4000 RPM at 72mph, and VTEC didn't engage in 5th until ~100mph (5500 RPM). Even with a 5100 RPM VTEC engagement as found on some early B16A ECUs, you won't hit VTEC in 5th until you reach an indicated speed of at least 91-92mph.
Are you remembering to shift out of 4th gear?

Don't worry, because you aren't. It was designed to be that way. Honda wouldn't have engineered and sold a car that would grenade itself under normal driving conditions.

lmao... learn to maintain your car before trying to kill yourself and someone else.
fix your cooling system problem first. i'm sure that bad *** JDM front end will get you to 150
trust us when we tell you...that POS b16 wont get you to 150 mph safely. i know because i have one, they arent all that great.
but if you want to... go for it

There is definitely something going on with your cooling system, I have driven my b16 while in vtec in 5th gear on a 90+ degree day for 3 hours at 80-90 mph and my temp gauge never went over 190 degrees. check your thermostat, and water pump, also if the radiator is the original 17+year old one they get calcium deposits inside that hinder proper cooling and should be replaced.
I just noticed your brake line, you have it seriously fucked up! it goes around the shock not over the tie rod with a zip tie, you are going to have some serious problems if you do it this way as well as being dangerous! get it fixed asap, what were you thinking?
whats funny is that I have a b16 in my civic, out of a euro spec 1.6i-vt and they intended the damn thing to be autobahn capable, lol at those speeds you have to be careful to not go into vtec for to long. im wanting to do the 5th gear swap, just working on other priorities right now, like getting my car back on the road.

thats not entirely true.. my b16a 1st gen engages vtec at 4800 in 5th gear and its a stock ECU
also your overheating problem is not your transmission its somethign else
thermostate
clogged hoses
pinched hoses
clogged rad
check those before you go spending money on a new tranny for no reason
and also if you search you will find that that topic has been covered alot and there are right ups very good write ups about putting an LS 5th gear in a b16 tranny
