so i got into a small accident the other night, need some advice
it happened in a parking lot and i was driving the opposite direction of a wrx. not knowing the wrx decided to turn into an aisle behind me.. i noticed that there was parking in the same aisle he happened to turn into. so i backed up and since it was pretty dark in that area, i didnt see him. i end up backing up into his driver side door. i had to be going somewhere around 5 mph..now theres only scratches on the corner of my bumper and a dent with scratches on his door.
i offered my info, insurance etc. but he tells me if i want to do this outside inusrance. i tell him ok hopefully its less than $500..now its been almost a week and he says hes got a few estimates ranging around $750 to over $1,000. hes saying that he needs a new door, which is BS..now before i decide what amount to give him i know i need to see some kind of invoice. any advice on what i should do? insurance is an option but my deductable is somewhere near $1,000 so thats not helpful.

i believe a dent should be easily fixable. Getting the whole door replaced is just bs. Some girl ran into my bros car once and broke his tail light. we went to the dealer to get an estimate and proof of how much it would really cost. She paid us cash for the cost. I suggest u get him to get u proof of how much it would really cost or maybe going with him to get the estimates. Him giving you ranges of the pricing is also BS. Get a hard copy of how much it would REALLY cost
I say expletive that you already kinda screwed up without letting insurance know. Even if you report and he decides not to report you would have been on the safe side. I am assuming he has no insurance and that is why he did not want to trade info. I say call your insurance provider and ask them what to do.
thanks guys..yeah im still trying to figure out what to do. i was thinking of meeting up and exchanging info, so that way insurance can deal with the estimates. or possibly taking pictures of it before he decides to put more damage on it and taking the photos to a couple body shops i know. this way i can pay the shop the right amount or something.

keep in mind that if you claim insurance that your premium will go up, also I would recommend that you get a quote from a bodyshop and see how much they quote you at as well take pictures of the car as it stands now so your not screwed and he does more damage to the car.
you dont want to claim insurance and pay the deductable that would be the same amount to fix the damage in the first place.
