anyone here have their R appraised???
I was wondering if any of u have had it done for insurance purposes?? Im asking b/c my R was given a rate GS since they dont know what a type R is. I am concerned because blue book in CDN $ is only like $12,000 for a 2000, and you all know as well as I do that its worth a lot more than that. In case something happens to the car, I wanna make sure that they know that my car is worth more than 12G's.
Anyways, any of u have this done?, what does the appraiser look for? how mmuch does it cost to have it appraised??
Thanks

well i have a 2001 type r i got it appraised last year with 6000 miles the dealership offered me $16000 trade in and told me that they would sell it for $19000
It is hard to put a price on something so unique. There are so many variables that going into determining the price of an R. For example just to name a few, mileage, condition, color, year, mods, stock or not, title! Especially today we are seeing the range of prices in an extra wide spectrum.
IMO... i think together as a board we are the only ones capable of determining exactly what they are worth because we understand the # of factors that go into determing what an R could/should be worth.

wholesale value on a 2000 ITR is approximately $9500CDN actually...retail maybe 11,000k ish..
Anyhow, Insurance usually gives you enough money for replacement value. So, if you had a mint low mileage ITR, they would payout as much as it would cost to replace the vehicle. My friend just totalled his 2000 Integra GS with 135,000kms and insurance gave him a settlement of $13,500..
Keep your original bill of sale when you purchased this car, and print out autotrader ads for reference with dates to prove how much they go for, incase, which is doubtful.. they give you a hard time.
Protect your ITR!, make it harder for these ecu swapping thieves, pull ECU fuses, clutch locks, etc. most of them aren't as bright as you think they are, and they won't spend alot of time figuring stuff out..
This will eliminate 95% of possible thefts, unless its towed!

I don't agree that we are the only ones capable. Yes, we understand those factors. But the opinion of this board doesn't mean jack to insurance companies. What does matter is what it costs to buy a similar vehicle. And if you can demonstrate how much they are selling for, by finding listings of similar cars for sale, you can often negotiate with your insurance company to give you what it is worth. If they don't already offer you what it is worth, which some insurance companies may do even without going through that process. (Some insurance companies tend to be more generous than others, and some may actually have done the research on values for a low-volume vehicle like ours.)
Also, some insurance companies offer what is known as "agreed amount" or "agreed value" coverage. With such coverage, if your car is totalled (either by theft, or by collision, or by fire, etc), you receive the dollar amount specified in your policy. You may want to inquire with your insurance company to find out about availability.

A little off topic, but when my wife and I did our taxes yesterday I stumbled across our county tax information and I payed property tax on my '97 R at a value of $8,600 last year.
Honestly, the best way to know what your car is worth is to keep your eyes open to what they're going for on H-T. It sounds simple but it's the best determinant of what you can expect to get one for.

the thing is, an internet forum is not a valid proof for price negotiation with an adjuster. they can easily say well i'll sign up for this forum and say i want to sell my car for 1000, so thats whats it worth, i do get what floatfisher is trying to say, but regardless if we know what our value is, HT, is not a valid proof to bring to an adjuster.

plus every state and country is diff and R's are more popular in some places than others. for example, cali is huge on R's as oppose to Ontario where they are rare. Last year when my low mileage 01 gsr was stolen, there were none for sale in the autotrader. So I printed GS listings for $17,000 -18,000 and said that my car is worth more than a GS. Here where i live, Type R are still going for 19,500-24,000.
I was only asking about the appraisal b/c if I have to deal with some idiot (appraiser) who thinks its some stock integra and say its worth $17,000 when i paid it more is just a waste of time and money

Country, maybe (especially since there are different currencies involved). State, not really. Since there are so few around, there's really a national market when trying to prove market values. You can't restrict yourself to those available in a single state where there might not be many (or any) for sale.

On a per capita basis, my understanding is that there are more in Canada than in the States. And there are probably more per capita in Ontario than in most other provinces.

the old lady who did my loan would only let me take a loan for 10k MAX!!.. with having a loan through them for the previous 2 years and no late payments, and even bringing in my grandma as a cosigner.. now obviously the car is worth way more than that but to a bank a type r emblem means nothing to them.. they go by the blue book..
now i do plan to find a car apraiser and see what kind of number they come up with the car being worth. hopefully they have the right knowledge to know the rareness of the car and the fact that they are no declared a collector car(correct??).. also i have reciepts of almost 7k just in motor work, cf hood hatch($1k), tanabe suspension, t1r exhaust, etc etc.. i wonder if the mods hurt the cars value or not.. hopefully with the reciepts and everything will help..
