clunk noise when clutch is released
Have a '00 Prelude base...whenever its cold out and you release the clutch in first gear it makes this quick clunk noise...Its only when the clutch is released and never makes it while just cruising down the road..any ideas?
Yes, its just when you start to go from a stop in 1st gear...Odd thing is it only occurs during winter months or cold weather...Also it only comes from the drivers side front
Also..Its definatly a quick clunk noise that is triggered when the clutch is released vs. the typical "clicking" noise associated with the axle..

I'm having the same issue that you have. I just started in the last few weeks since it has gotten colder. Its' just a single clunk when starting from a stop.

I got the exact same thing on my '00 Lude. It's nothing loud or anything and I doubt it's the axle, it's deff the clutch. If it was the axle it would do it if my car started rolling down a hill in neutral but it doesn't. This also happens in my friends del-sol.
I agree with you...in reference to you doubting its the axle bc I could roll down the hill as well and never have the noise...It really seems its triggered by the clutch and the cold temp...Anybody have any other ideas???
Im having the same problem with my 97 prelude, I got under my car one day and noticed that there is a metal cylinder type thing on the axle by the second boot in from the wheel, i grabbed it and it was loose slighty and when i moved it i heard the same noise i been hearing. Not sure what it is, trying to find out now. Get under car and let me know if yours does the same.

are you talking about the halfshaft??
i highly doubt that it's the clutch, cuz my friend is having that same noise problem and he has an automatic. he talked to a shop and they told him that it is his axle. i'm going to check his out later on this week to see what's up.

I have the same problem. only on days its really cold. it isn't the axles cause i know the clicking those make and besides the noise only happens when I press in the clutch. hmmm.

This clunk is driving me crazy. I just took it for a test drive and I think I want to rule out the axle for now bc it only makes a single quick clunk when there is a heavy torque transfer like starting from a stop and accelerating in first. I can actually feel the clunk in the clutch pedal as its released. I also got it to make the quick clunk in second gear if i popped it quick..3rd, 4th, and 5th gear never make the noise. I did some figure 8's as well with no noises whatsoever such as clicking. I inspected the front driver's side motor mount and that seemed to check out ok. I am going to jack it up tomorrow and play with the front end..
Well I had to change the oil today so I inspected the vehicle while it was up on stands and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. All steering and suspension components seemed tight along with all the various bushings. I also rocked the vehicle back and forth while in gear on a flat service to watch and engine move and that seemed to be normal. Anybody else have any ideas or tests i could do before i end up taking it to some shop??
