Default 89, 90, and 91 crx differences?

Im kinda confused. I have a black crx si. And I need to buy a bumper for it. And I want the one with the spaces under the bumper signals. You know the place where some people put fogs. But Ive been looking around and I know my friends 89 crx si has it. And ive also seen 91s that dont. So I figured that they changed the style of the bumper. But then I looked more and found 91 si's that do have the spaces. So Im mega confused on what years those style of bumpers came on. But I do know that if you want a 89 si bumper on the 91 you need the 89 bumper support as well. So that also makes me think the style of bumper was changed. Any of you know? Thanks.

The '90-91 bumper cover (71101-SH2-A10ZZ) has the two side pockets.

The '88-89 bumper cover (71101-SH2-000ZZ) does not.

Bumper turn signals are different sizes, so you'd need to buy a pair for a '90-91 car. Bumper support goes with cover/signal year.

Also, the belt "molding" (which is actually an integral part of the bumper) is thicker on the '88-89 bumper as opposed to the '90-91, which had smaller belt moldings all the way around the car. The chin spoiler/lip are also different for '88-89 vs. 90-91 bumpers.

man, thanks a lot. you know your ****! So I would need to buy a 90-91 crx si bumper cover, bumper support, and bumper belt molding.

What exactly is a belt molding? Sorry if these questions are kinda lame. Im more of an engine guy and im just starting to get into exterior and interior.

That strip half way down the door that runs across the side of the car. I have a 89 si and im changing the bumper to a 91 and shaving that strip off. they are diffrent thickness and if you buy them all new from honda they are pretty expensive.

the molding is the only difference. you can change the moldings on the doors and fenders but the moldings on the bumpers are integrated so the bumpers will have to be replaced. the 90-91 moldings are thinner.

so if I was to get a front and rear bumper off a 90-91 crx and put it onto an 88, i could just buy the 90-91 black trim on the doors and fenders and everything would look correct and not mismatched?

Yes. You also need the front bumper turn signals and front bumper support in addition to the cover.

I frankly think it's a waste of time and money. Each model has it's own subtly distinctive look, and I don't think either looks better than the other. I like '88-89 CRX style and '90-91 style equally and would be happy with either.

yea I know what u mean. but I cant find any rear bumpers/supports for a 88-89 anywhere b/c they are bent. if u know where to get them online I'll buy the 88-89 but I just cant find them. I can get the 90-91 rear bumpers/side moldings at a local salvage yard

Yea I have a 89 front bumper and moldings I would trade someone for a 90-91 set. I also have a 89 back bumper. I heard someone on here saying they were looking for one.
