accelleration
hey i have a 00 civic ex stock motor.. i was just woundering what i can do to get the most accelleration i can as well as top speed... turbo being last option

for acceleration wise i'd most definately go for a supercharger as they are better for fast and all around acceleration they pull way faster then turbo but towards later gears the turbo will most likely pull ahead.

if turbo is a last option, then so is a supercharger..

id recomend you sitcking with the basic i/h/e. Not a LOT of improvement but yeah.

This isn't "need for speed"
There isn't much you can do to "increase your acceleration and top speed"
I would say put a shorter gear box but I'm pretty sure you have the shortest gear box (00 Y8).
So yeah, go w/ bolt-ons or boost, not left w/ a lot of options, only 4 cylinders.

if you not going turbo...
the s20 tranny has much better gears then the Y8.
both have the same final drive.
you'll get much better acceleration with the s20

Wow. It's amazing how many people thing an intake and exhaust change their top speed and how many mph they can get to in each gear.
Top speed will require modification of the tranny.
Accelleration in a d series?
Lighter flywheel or turbo.
It's waaaaayyyy to expensive to make a d series N/A. It's just not cost effective at all. Bang for buck, FI

Take my advice as from someone who's been THINKING about doing something to my car for over two years. Still haven't done it. Think about all the research and question asking I've done for you over the past two years.
turbo was just last option cuz thats an obvious and to expensive... im saving up for a swap but i wanted to do some little things on the way cuz itll take me a while..
lol a turbo is cheaper and faster than a STOCK b-series, hell faster than most n/a b-series. but its cheaper, a bit more of a hassle for tuning though. also it can be reliable if tuned correctly.
a Nice turbo can be put together for $1500 with a reputable tune. I've seen it done.
My buddy runs low 10's in his purple homemadeturbo hatch.
His beginning setup he ran high 12's with a $1200 setup.

NA is gay when it comes to D-Series I know a guy who when to extreme lengths to make power out of a D. He spent many. many hours porting the head and toying with different ideas. He even used side draft carburetors off of Bisimoto's old car. Long story short he only made 90 whp. I have the dyno vid to prove it.

It's a d-series... you aren't going to get much power out of it. They do not respond well to bolt-ons. Either swap to a B, K, F, or H-series engine, look into forced induction, or just learn to deal with the fact that d-series motors can't accelerate.

Actually, unless your redlining in 5th then adding power will raise your top speed without having to mess with your tranny.

looks like somebody needs to do some research as well. the most i have seen for a d-series dyno is about 550whp with nos and t-bo. but ive seen this guy run 505whp with just turbo. so saying "your not going to get much power out of it" is just not reasonable. yes you wont get power out of it n/a. but with boost it will force power out of it.

If turbo is the last option and you can't get a swap, then definately get a lighter flywheel and a good clutch (professionally installed) and if you can get that you should already have I/H/E but if not and you can go ahead and get that too! If you still have money left after that get a good cam gear also (professionally installed/tuned)-then you'll be alot happier with your d-series!!!!
