Default broke the thread to my valve cover

i was putting my valve cover back on today and *pop*....the thread broke off with the bolt stuck on it. wth i didn't even tighten it that much and it broke off...anybody kno how much this costs to get fixed? oh yea and also my dumbass accidentally used a spark plug cover bolt to screw onto the valve cover itself and now it won't move..it rotates but doesn't move up any. how much would this all cost to get fixed? any ideas?

The crown nut is $1.96 ea and the head cover bolt is $2.73 each... The labor is your own time...

Regards

Teken
im not sure if u understand my problem....the actual thread to the valve cover...there is one on each corner of the valve cover where u screw on the nut/bolt and the thread/rising where the bolt/nut is screwd to tighten..the whole thing snapped off. its looks like its a part of the head where the holes on the valve cover fits over to be screwd on. doesn't look like a part that is just simply put on or off? sorry if im not being very specific...its hard to explain...but just so u get me

The long threaded bolt which is screwed into the head is what you have in your hand now with a crown nut attatched... The crown nut is simply the nut that secures it down to the head... I hope that answers your Q

Teken
EXACTLY! u kno wat im talking about...how much does it cost to get that fixed? any idea? will any place fix this or do i have to go to the dealership to get it fixed?

the same **** happenend to me. Those bolts are very sensitive. You should use a torque wrench the next time you screw those valve cover bolts back on. I'm not sure how many pounds of pressure though.

NEVER USE A TORQUE WRENCH ON THEM!!! You will snap them quick!! Just use a small ratchet and hand tighten them.

BTW dont mess with the bolts when the engine or valve cover is hot!!!

the torque spec on it is 7ft-lbs. a child can exert more force on the nut than that. DONT use a rachet. it's too easy to overtighten if you're not careful. use a socket driver(the same thing as a screwdrive except w/ a socket. sorry dunno the terminology here).
