Help - auto shift lock won't disengage
I had an directed python 990 alarm installed that has remote start. everything seemed to work fine until i was getting ready to leave the shop. the arming, disarming, and remote start worked fine. but once the car is started, the shift lock wont disengage when i hit the brake pedal. we thought maybe the solenoid went bad but we tested it and it worked fine.
has anybody encountered this problem?
is there a relay that controls the solenoid when the brake pedal is engaged, and if so would anybody know where it is?

You might be experiencing the auto shift lock problem...Honda built in a workaround for it...in the upper right hand corner of the shift area there is a small subtle oval. If yours has the cover on it...pry up the cover and stick your key in there to disengage the lock...then put the cover back on. If no cover...skip that step. Try that...it should cure what ails you.
yeah the manual override on the shift lock works, but it isn't working when i step on the brake pedal. it would be a real PITA to have to manually do it everytime.
Ahh ok...so you've checked the obvious.
Sounds like they clipped an extra wire when installing the system. I'll check my stuff later and see what I can find for you. Stay tuned...more to follow.

Do your brake lights work?
Do your brake lights work?
Yes, the brake lights work.
We tested the solenoid that controls the shift lock. Both lines have a 12v signal. WHen I press on the brake, both lines still show 12v. We then grounded the black wire and this is when the solenoid fired.
So the signal to this line from the brake is messed up.

I'm having a similar problem... but my brake lights won't turn on. I got home on Wednesday night and parked my car. When I started it back up the next day, the shifter would not move or budge from Park.
I disconnected the battery, rolled the car a little and checked under the steering wheel for any loose cables. However, I'm not really sure what the shift lock solenoid looks like...
Would this prevent my brake lights from turning on and locking my gear box?
I appreciate a quick response as I'm taking a taxi to work
Thanks!
Katita

Does your horn work? If not check your fuses. If yes check your brake switch.

Break lights dont work and shifter doesn't mean = fuse is dead
You can override it though and drive just fine but your brake lights won't work though. Might take it back to the dealership.
Are you driving an auto or manual?
If auto, put the key where the shift-stick is located and override it by turning the key and change gears from P to N(member the car is still off). Once it's on Neutral(N) and pull the hand break so your car won't roll. Then, Take the key off that keyhole near the shifter, put your key in the ignition hole and start up your car. Take your car to the dealership, turn it off, talk to the techs and get it checked by a them. Warranty should cover it even if it's just a dead fuse. It's in the manual somewhere.
