how do you identify a d16y8 intake manifold?

what differentiates it from the other d-series manifolds

The one in the picture is actually a D16Y5 manifold because it has EGR. There is no difference between them except for the EGR.

It looks like a y8 IM, but it looks like it has a Z6 TB on it.

Yes, that is a Y8 manifold. There two flavor of Y8 intake manifold, auto and manual. The Manual will have two holes in the back for the two wire IACV. The auto has none. It uses a 3 wire IACV locate underneath the throttle body.
