Default recommended tig welders?

I'm trying to decide on what welder to get.I was either thinking of the miller dynasty 200dx, or a little cheaper maybe the syncrowave 200. I don't really know how the other brands compare to the miller, I have a lincoln mig and a lincoln plasma cutter, and I think they're pretty decent quality..but supposedly the miller has a little edge. I doubt I'd be welding materials much thicker than 3/16", mostly stuff like manifolds, mounts, intercooler end tanks, etc.
Any input on this, more experienced fabricators?

I have miller. Sync 200 and millermatic 175. Both great.
I thought that lincoln had come out with a model just slightly higher in
amperage than the miller 200????
Anyway, the 200 is a great buy, I recommend it.

The syncrowave 200 isn't really that much, it's around $1750 or so..? Maybe less without shipping..

I don't understand how the syncrowave weighs over 200lbs, (I don't know exactly how much) whereas the dynasty 200dx weighs about 45 lbs. From what Ive been able to tell, they have pretty similar ratings, but the 200dx is way more $. What gives? Is the 200dx really that much more technologically advanced? The syncrowave seems to be rated at higher output voltages, but I don't know what that translates into. I know the 200dx has all kinds of nifty features, but I think the syncrowave 200 has most of them too.

its because of the inverter technology == less weight and uses less power

hit up your local welding supply house and ask for a demo, ask who they would rather sell for various reasons, service support etc, then make an educated choice. I went with a lincoln because I can easily get support for it thru the place I purchased it.

BTW I have a lincoln precision tig 275(paid about 4k) and Millermatic 300 MIG(I paid $600 at an auction about $2500 new)

I've looked over the miller site, but I still don't know enough to make a decision yet..
What exactly is an inverter welder? What is the difference, how does that work, electrically/theoretically?
I suspect I'll end up with a syncrowave just because of the price though.

I don't mean to come off harsh, but if you don't know what you want or need, then your decision will be quite difficult.
Maybe read a bit more about power sources, and decide what the machine will be used for the most.

I know either of my previously mentioned choices will work. Just looking for more input.

You should look into the Thermal Arc products. I have a Thermal Arc Pro Wave 185. Its an inverter and welds like a dream. It only cost me around $2k.
