For daily driving, and still fun... '06 Civic Si. S2000 would be a bit small for me for daily driving, as I drive people around quite a bit. Type-R would be a great daily driver, if it weren't for the high theft factor.
I think an '06 Civic Si is a happy medium... Great performer, fun to drive, good aesthetics, and not TOO high on the theft list. Not to mention, if it does get stolen, it'll be much simpler to replace.

Depends what your going to be doing and what your plans are. I love both cars but feel more at home with an ITR. S2K's are nice but a tad more impractical for daily use. Then there is theft, insurance, weather... so many factors... explain a little more.

I own a 97 ITR, and prior to owning it I was in the experiencing the same dilema that you are.
Your best bet is to try to test drive both. I was getting mixed opinions from different people, some were favouring the S2K, and some the ITR.
What it really comes down to, is your uses for the car? lifestyle? (Daily Driver, Do you have a garage? Paranoid of theft?)
Will you track your car? ITR may be more favourable if that is your main use.
Do you plan on heavily modifying? ITR will be cheaper than the S2k because parts are less expensive.
I drove both cars, infact it was one right after the other. Here are my thoughts on the S2K, which I drove first:
Pro's: Stock for stock, the S2K is faster than the ITR
Appearance wise, I give the S2K a very slight edge
More of a chick magnet
I found it to be cheaper on insurance than the ITR
Rear Wheel Drive
Not a theft magnet
When purchasing, there will be alot more to choose from, plus the option of buying brand new
Con's: Too high reving for the street, lacks torque.
Very tight cockpit, not the best for a DD
Zero storage room. Planning a road trip? keep it simple
Rag top, the one I test drove had a gash in it.
If you plan on modifying, it is very hard to make more power, unless you force induct it (Supercharger, or Turbo) The F20C already produces 120hp per liter, 240hp out of a naturally aspirated 2L!
My Opinion on the ITR:
Pro's: Best handing front wheel drive production car in the world
If you track you car, it is ideal, even with zero mods
Cheaper at point of purchase.
Will hold value better if in mint condition, over time.
Really fun to drive
Has good potential for more power, even though it is very good in stock form.
Con's: Bloody Theft magnet
Hard to find a mint condition unmolested one.
Owning a garage is vital if you plan on keeping it for a long time.
Front wheel drive
Very limited choice selection when purchasing. Haven't made them since 2001, if your are in the states, they were not produced in 1999, so that reduces selection more. Here in Canada, We had them from 1997-2001.
Majority of the ones you will come across will need matinence, replacing of parts that wear over time.
I chose the ITR, mainly because I always wanted one. Finally finding a mint original owned, bone stock one was way more tempting than an over populated S2K.
I have a Daily Driver, and a garage, so that was a very big factor to why I chose the ITR.
The symptoms of owning and ITR kind of suck, because of the theft issue, I can't park it anywhere, I don't want to winter drive it, so it gets stored away, and in the spring I find that there is alot of matinence involved when I re awake it. flushing fluids, replacing parts because they seize or dry up. Sensors may need replacement if condensation eats away at them.
My parents constantly harp at me for buying a car that I rarely drive. I am very paranoid of theft, I have nightmares from time to time. It is probably my greatest fear. Because I have seen all the theft threads on HT, and see what other people go through with the aftermath, fighting insurance companies, finding an equal replacement etc...
It is really your choice, but I hoped this helped.

I test drove both and went with an ITR for a few reasons.
1) I'm a little over weight. 5'10" 230 lbs, and I had some issues just getting in and out of it.
2) Not practical for DD. If it's going to be your only car, then forget about it. 2 seater's can be a pain, cause it's life and stuff happens, and you'll need back seats eventually.
3) The S2000 is a little faster than a stock ITR, but it's not THAT much faster. It's about 30 more whp, but is a couple hundred lbs. heavier than an R, so you won't be going into "ludicrous speed" w/ an s2k.
4) I just felt more comfortable with FWD. Dunno why, but I feel like I've got more control, and am just more used to it.
5) The driver experience is just different. S2000 is more "pampered" than an R, IMO. Not by much, but the R just has a more raw feel, and the engine just sounds better stock vs. stock in VTAC mode.

Where's Dave Bitch? He's got both.
The Stook just isn't on my list. If I'm buying a roadster, it's going to be a late 60's Mercedes SL. Back in the real world, if I'm buying a roadster, it would be a Miata.
Then again, having a Type R for a DD is unfortunately not practical in this day and age for most people in most locations. I DD'd mine for under a year in 2000, and if I had kept that up, I can almost guarantee it would have been stolen.

Yeah,,, I guess you haven't driven a hyundai lately... Those have a serious lack of Tq.
The ITR or S2000 have plenty of low end power for normal everyday driving. But if you are going to compare it to a V8 car then well... remember it's just a 1.8 liter Honda.

Unless you REALLY want an ITR and you know that is the car for you and your willing to deal with hassles I would say go for a new Si. Similar concept, but brand new without many of the headaches.

I had both, back to back. My ITR attracted too much unwanted attention (from regular people, not cops
) Everywhere I parked it I had people looking in my windows and stuff. I was paranoid about theft, and sold it.
As far as the S not being a good daily driver, I disagree. Yes, it's a little small in the cabin, but it's not uncomfortable. (I'm 5'10", 160lbs) I happen to like small cars. The only thing that sucks is if it snows by you. I have snow tires on my S right now, but it just snowed about 1.5" here last night, and I don't plan on driving the S to work today because of it.
Either of these cars, I would opt to buy a cheap car that you can use as backup. For the ITR, use it when you want to go to the movies / mall / ect. For the S2000, use it for inclement weather.
On another note, F the new Si. I'm sorry, it's nice and all, but I hate the way the gearbox feels, and that's a big thing for me. My boss has one, I've driven it, and I'll pass on it.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm 21 with a squeaky clean record, insurance was about $1000 a year more for my ITR than it is for my S2000. Same coverage.

damn i'm 21 too..i drive a hatch...insurance is like 70 a month!! why do people have to be so shady and steal..yea the new Si is alright..right now i'm leaning towards the ITR..only since i always wanted one
damn theives!

Depends.
If you will only have one car, ITR all the way.
If you already have another car, I'd go S2000.
I love ITRs, but I can enjoy the S2000 more which is why there's one sitting in my garage.
Both are quick and very fun to drive, the ITR is actually a little more fun on the track (probably because I'm not as experienced with RWD cars on the track right now), but the S2000 on the street cruising with the top down or autocrossing is more fun IMO.

In that area, the S2000 also wins.
ITR costs more to insure than a GSR and my 2006 S2000 is close to $30 a month cheaper to insure than my 2000 GS-R.

Have had both for 2.5 yrs - S2K is wife's DD, ITR is my family car (8-yr old).
S is better performance car (slightly better power/weight, RWD, awesome steering)
but only slightly better...
R can double as a family sedan (albeit a small one) while S can maybe take you on a weekend trip with 1 other person.
R is more raw, more rare, sounds better (stock to stock) and has way better visibility compared to S w/top up.
When I have the choice of which to drive, I usually pick the R. There are cars and there are R's...

If you want an ITR then get it, ....... if your iffy about it then get the S2000. ItR isnt a caR for everyone and you REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY have to love the car because you go through so much **** when you get one.

It really depends on what you want the car for.If you likfe Autox I would recommend S2k because of its balance and stable. If you just want a sweet head-turning daily driven car then the RRR would be perfect.Go do research on the Pros n Cons of both and decide for yourself. Its YOUR car!!
