Manual tranny rattleing during shifting?
'99 LX 5-speed, about 85,000 miles.
Last night I was pulling into my garage with the radio off and window open (thus could hear for once) and noticed that when I shifting there was a rattling noise coming from the transmission (or something close to it). It's a brief rattle, maybe a half second or a second, and it only happens when the clutch is halfway down (while shifting).
Is the rattling normal? That isn't a sign of a clutch going bad, is it?
Also, I have never changed my manual transmission fluid but plan on doing that once the weather warms up a little - should I do it sooner rather than later?

Can you make the noise in neutral by using the clutch pedal? Then play with it & tell us the circumstances when it makes the noise & when it doesn't. Have someone out there with the hood open & try to pinpoint the location.
