Default C.A.R.B legal Exhausts for Ek hatch.

i think this will really only apply to Cali peeps since I think we are the only ones that have to put up with this B.S. But does anyone know what companies make carb legal exhausts for the 1996-2000 ek hatchbacks? help a brother out and shoot me some links. Ive been searching and found nothing. Skunk2 has a carb pending one and that wont fly.

Oh yeah I ask because the stinkin Po-Po just gave me a damn ticket for too much exhuast noise. (i have a 5zigen fireball cat-back)

Thanks for any input you guys can give me.

Correct. I was just addressing what his actual problem was, not his question

Yeah the Dx exhaust diameter is like 1.5 inches. That damn thing is a pea shooter. No help.

To my understanding I thought any modifications that had anything to do with emissions (i.e ehxuast, intake) needed a carb eo# to be legal. If all that matters is that its supposed to be under 95db then im going to get me a rsr exmag.

Correct. It does have to be under 95 db. When i got sent to the REF..they didn't check for anything on my exaust, they just tested to see if i was under 95 db

Edit:you should get a apex'i WS2 if price is an issue...they are 48 state legal

the exhaust manifold(header) and cat converter has to be carb legal not the exhaust piping + muffler

Not at all. I haven't been pulled over in over a year. Cops don't even glance at my car anymore. We don't have safety check, we don't have to go through WSP, we don't have emissions. Thurston is the ****.

why is carb such a big deal.. especially for a CAI or exhaust.

Most likely if you get stop for it - they will want you to fix it/take it off entirely

c.a.r.b stuff only deals with stuff before the cat - so exhaust really doesn't matter...because - what comes out comes out. after that - it's making the public happy... less noise. so get a quiet one - free flowing... mandrel bends - resonator, and a dynomax super turbo muffler... looks stock, idles like stock... but flows much much better.

yeah my only real concern was getting stopped for this crap again. So i preferably wanted a carb legal exhaust so if i ever get pulled over for it again i could whip out the carb number and go on about my business ticket free. What Im getting from you guys is that so long as its quiet, under 95db, i wont get pulled over for it.

So i guess ill look into the ws2 or the rsr exmag. Anyone know how the exmag sounds? Ive heard its quiet but havent heard it personally.

The pig that pulled me over basically told me to go to the chp office after i fix the exhaust and get it written off. So I got til eary march to find one.

all exhaust post-cat should not affect the amount of emissions output...just the noise
i say go with a greddy EVO catback.
not necessarily the most power gain but usually the most torque gain...and just about the lowest tone you can find...
the muffler itself is larger than other coffee-can exhausts...so it gives you nice low tone unless you get on it...it tucks nice for lowered cars

you could always just take off the axle-back part and have someone weld up the stock muffler to a flange that matches your piping.
then...after you pass...just unbolt the factory muffler and bolt up your aftermarket one again.
