Passing Smog with CTR parts and VAFC/SAFC
Hey guys, i did a little searching on the topic, but found mostly posts about jdm swapped engines or GSR's running Type R cams. Here's some background that relates to my questions. I plan on doing an engine rebuild on my B16A2 this summer with the following: oversized ctr pistons(81.25mm), a mild valve job, and ctr cams along with a ctr intake mani. I also plan on running a entry level piggyback fuel system like the VAFC or SAFC. With a mild setup like this what would I have to do to pass smog in CA? I talks to a mechanic who said that as long as i run oem parts (CTR or whatever) and set my fuel map back to stock, I would be able to pass smog easily. Is this true??
Thanks for you time, and sorry for being a noob

Unless if the CTR manifold is the same as the B16A or ITR then that wont pass, VAFC wont pass visual. Without the VAFC or some kind of management i dont think youll pass the sniffer but im not sure.

If the tech looks at your ecu hell see the wires for the VAFC it doesnt matter where you hide it. But as long as you dont BAR or test only you should be fine, Check guys dont really car for obd1 cars. If its obd2 thats another story.

I bar'd my car with a vafc II hooked up. Just had it hidden. Tech didn't notice the wires hooked up to the ecu. But its probably better to just take it out just to make sure.

you wont pass unless you run some high octane gas. with the ctr pistons and a stock b16 ecu, the motor will be running lean. running lean will cause more NOx and CO. so no you wont pass either way. just know that when you modify your car with higher comp it will be very hard to smog it. just boost your car or something
