Default brown radiator coolant

what would cause my radiator coolant which was super green up until the last time i checked it sometime later Nov. to turn like dirty water ?

could it have anything to do with the heater being where as it wasnt during the summer?

my car is 91 crx si with b16 obd 0 . stock radiator. no over heating problems ever.

also. my car makes a ticking noise when at idle. not all the time tho. comes and goes. and the amout of noise also goes up and down. i thought it wsa injector but im not sure now.. , what could this be?

it could be rust falling off the inside of the radiator over time, corrosion, making the antifreeze look dirty. ticking noise could be head gasket leaking hence the discoloration of the antifreeze.(this is a long shoot, don't panic)

ticking noise is most definitely valve lash. you need to adjust your valves to get rid of the ticking.

i hope thats it.

so no one thinks that having used the heater for the first time in this past two months (aka heater was dirty from pervious engine) could have made the coolant dirty?

could be. the coolant in the heater core could have been dirty. don't know though if the coolant gets trapped in there when heater is closed on cool position. that would explain the dirty color.

What do you mean? Every time you change it, it instantly turns brown? If not just do a coolant flush and it should flush out everything..

I have the same problem except my coolant has been flushed a few times, albeit it wasnt flushed with running water but it was drained, refilled and ran up to temp, then flushed again. and no matter what my coolant always comes out looking like pea soup. when I drain it there is a lightish grey sludge at the bottom of the container when it has time to settle. I'm hoping that in the spring time when I do a good flush with the hose it will take care of any sediment int he system and my coolant will begin to look normal again.
