Shopping for my first race suit and don't have much idea between the differences in brands or what to look for. Unfortunatly "Sportscar" saftey gear review issue will be out a little late for me.
Budget isn't real big, I've been keeping my eyes under $500 at least. Looks like more than a few distributers are trying to blow out alot of sparco suits. The Sprint, Cup and the 5 all seem like likely canadets. Also looking at the G-force 505, Simpson std.19, and the pyrotechs seem like good deals.
Any advice, comments and/or opinions are welcome.

i absolutely HATE my pyrotech. It is good for keeping me warm durning the 25hour, and being big and awkward all the time.
I have ordered an Impact suit just not sure if it will be here in time.

Alpinestars makes an amazing suit for around 1100.00 I believe they just produced an economy version for around 650.00 All of my gear is alpinestars and it's all awesome!

i have worn the economy version in some pretty horrible weather. 80 with 90% humidity, then another weekend 98 with 95% humidity. Granted i was just in the pits doing that stuff, i stayed fairly comfortable. The drivers had the more expensive suits mentioned and they still got hot as hell but that is pretty much a given, every driver was hot as hell.
The stuff was durable and took a beating just fine.

Get the lightest 3 layer suit that you can afford. The Sparco Sprint 5 is like a snowmobile suit. If you get a heaver suit just for the cost savings I can tell you wont be happy, most likely you will be purchasing a cool suit or a replacement suit to make yourself comfortable, ultimately spending more money.
If you can try the suit on before you buy as well, the European suits fit a little different than the US suits.

Why I race cars...a psychological analysis...a fantasy?...a love story?...well, it's strange anyway.
