I installed a set of these Skunk2 Stage 2 cams in a H22a. I have the skunk manifold, retainers, valves, full exhaust etc..... stock block.
After the install I notices that I cant rev over 5500rpm's in 4th and 5th gear. Feels like some sort of governor. Theres also no Vtec in those gears.
I brought it back to have the problem checked and they told me that it was the cams, and they are meant for 1/2 mile drag from a stop and arent meant to make power so high on high gears. I think he is full of ****, someone please let me know if I am right or wrong. Right now I am pretty pissed off. Thanks

Last time I checked, crossing over relies on eng temp, oil pressure, and RPM, not on gear and cam design.

You have been hosed, go back, raise hell, or find another shop that isn't taking you for a ride.

 

just curious.....what kind of exhaust is on your car?

I have a set of crower3s and an RMF header, with an electronic cutout, and then a stock cat and exhaust. With the cutout open, they run fine, but closed, the stock exhaust isn't big enough, and vtec won't kick in, the engine chokes on all the air and its exactly like hitting a rev limiter....thats in all gears thoguh.....

 

they are full of it. i have skunk2 s2 in my car and they work fine in all gears, just wondering if you have a knock sensor. that might be the problem.

I cracked the map sensor during the install of the Skunk manifold. I dont think that would stop the Vtec from working in 4th and 5th though

 

I just called skunk and they pretty much told me that i am getting bullshitted also. The cam lobes are always there. There is Vtec crossover in every gear and the cams never know what gear they are in. There are 5 main reasons why vtec wont work. 1)oil pressure 2) throttle 3) Knock 4)car must be driving over 25 mph 5) collant temp.

I am going there tomorrow and putting a foot in someones ***.

 

Sounds like the knock sensor is activating and pulling timing.

 

so the latest update is that the ECU that I had inlinefour reprogram is (alledgedly)faulty. I have to find a stock ecu, or reprogram the ecu again, whichever is cheaper.
